Fiedes Krog: For fans of Fiede Kay

Fiedes Krog / Fiede's Krog in Bredstedt is a restaurant that was run by the bard-singer Fiede Kay, who was well known for singing in Platt-deutsch, the local dialect of Northern Germany, in principal a language-mixture between german and english and hard to understand for the rest of Germany. My mother used to speak that language in her childhood, when she grew up in Hamburg and she was a big fan of Fiede Kay, so we had to go there and we were even served by Fiede himself.

Favorite Dish: Krabben-Suppe / crab-soup was my favorite dish there, a strong and delicious soup, great in order to recover on a windy day close to the Atlantic ocean.

Zur Herta: an excellent fish-restaurant

Herta is my favorite restaurant in Kiel for many reasons : first of all it is the lovely old ship with a great interior and the terrace with a view of the other interesting sailingships docked in that part of the port.b.t.w The Motto of this place is "Wer bei uns Fisch isst, braucht kein Viagra" (When you eat fish here, you won't need Viagra)

Favorite Dish: "Hausmacher Fischsuppe" is a local fish-soup with bell-peppers, salmon, makarels, smoked dogfish and some more. A small dish is 3,50 and a full pot as a maincourse is 6,90 euros - see the soup on my 4th picture. It was a good idea to taste that soup but I was glad I took the smaller pot and another fish-course afterwards.

Roter Haubarg: Very Square Meal

The name of the restaurant does not come from the color it is very white but from the thatched roof and the Fire that burned the thatched roof of this 17th century square farm house built. It is one of only a few such large farm house built in the low flood zones of Nordfriesland or North Frisia that have survived. It is owned by the local Nordfriesland government and has a museum as well as a restaurant. The family that runs the restaurant, Karina and Jürgen Reck were so very helpful in explaining the local culture and traditions. The century old square farm house was built to endure the local floods from the sea by having very strong oak pillars that the home owners could take refuge in the rafters.

Favorite Dish: They serve very tradition food from Nordfriesland. Seafood fresh from the North sea nearby and Local lamb which famous for being very tasty because it is grown on the local salt marshes

Lamb raised on the local North Frisialand salt marshes served as scaloppini-style medallions with locally grown mushrooms and locally grown yellow squash.

China Restaurant Canton: Nice Atmosphere

Nice Chinese Restaurant located in Ahrensburg.
Traditional Chinese interior with 2 large aquariums as decoration.

I went at lunch time and the place was empty but filled up quickly so it seems to be popular with the locals.

The food was quick and delicious. Service good, didnt have to wait very long for the waitress to take our orders and she came back periodically to check on us.

Favorite Dish: Bo bok sung It is chicken in a spicy sauce with carrots, mushrooms, and snow peas

Gasthof Restaurant: Excellent herring!!

Oland is a tiny island in the Wadden Sea, off the Schleswig-Holstein coast at Dagebüll. On the island, there is a tiny guesthouse and restaurant (I can't remember if it had a name) near the boarding platform for the boat to Schlüttsiel. The restaurant appears to have varying specials depending on what day you visit, but it also serves beer and other beverages. There is seating both outside and inside, and the outside table and chairs provide an excellent view of the Wadden Sea and the dike that surrounds the island and protects it from storms.

A MAJOR plus for this restaurant--as I mentioned earlier, there appeared to be no tourist price-gouging on the island, so the meal was extremely reasonably priced!

Favorite Dish: The special that day was pickled herring, served with onions and potato salad. It was delicious, and went great with a nice beer!!
