Lindenkrug Tavern: Tasty and healthy food

    by Kuznetsov_Sergey Updated Dec 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is a 245 years old tavern in Thomsdorf: the so called "Lindenkrug".
For a supper we ate bacon and fish baked in the test. Beer and various vegetable salads have added good impression of local cookery.

    Puttgarden ferry - Thomsdorf

    by Kuznetsov_Sergey Written Dec 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Puttgarden’s ferry comes to a local highway 207 - continuation of the European route E47. It's necessary to go 36 kilometers up to autobahn. Autobahn N1 begins in Oldenburg.

However our lodging for the night has been planned away from the basic line. Therefore in 22 kilometers from Puttgarden we turned to 501 highway, then in 13 kilometers we turned to Thomsdorf.

    History and Slavonics roots

    by Kuznetsov_Sergey Written Dec 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Thomsdorf is situated in 20 km from Oldenburg (in Holstein). Oldenburg was the chief town of the Wagrians, one of the Slavic peoples that migrated as far west as the river Elbe in or after the 6th century, also known as Wends and Obotrites.

The Slavonic name was Starigard or Stargard, meaning "Old Settlement" or "Old Castle", and the German name Oldenburg is a (Low Saxon) translation of this. To the Vikings, the city was known as Brandehuse, i.e. "the burned houses", indicating the bellicose times.

For centuries, Starigard/Oldenburg remained the Slavic competitor of Hedeby on the Baltic trade, until the counts Adolph I and Adolph II of Schauenburg and Holstein, supported by Henry the Lion, finally defeated the Wends during the first half of the 12th century.

    150 people village

    by Kuznetsov_Sergey Written Dec 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Somewhere between the Holstein Switzerland (approx. 10 km) and the Baltic Sea (in a distance of 5 km) is a small place called Thomsdorf.

Here, where people are so friendly, where the air is clean, and where the Baltic Sea lures with long walks, where one can explore the area on wheels or on foot, where it is calm and peaceful - there is situated a 150 people village.

We stayed here for a night and felt a delicious atmosphere of an ancient Holsteinian village.
