The other year we didn't take the highway but mostly drove on back roads which was less a drive but cosy crawls behind hay trucks and such. In the area known as seagull island, the Hemmelsdorf's lake splits into two basins of vastly differing depths. You're never too far away from the hustle and bustle of life here. Fishermen sell eel straight from the smokehouse, which you can enjoy while watching anglers pass by on their rowing boats.
Take A1, drive into direction of Luebeck, then ahead direction of Fehmann, then take exit 18 with the sign naming the towns of Ratekau, Niendorf, Timmendorfer Strand, then turn right, then drive on straight into the town of Timmendorfer Strand.
