Erfurt Local Customs

I took this photograph in the Domplatz of Erfurt. It shows the differences between police officers in the UK & Germany. Though everyone has to eat, its still unusual to see police officers in the UK eating within public view let alone smoking. Mind you those hot dogs are tasty.

You all know the little green men who live in the traffic lights, telling you when to cross the street? Well, in Erfurt they're no longer alone but have got company. A little green lady has joined them. She seems to be in a hurry, swinging her handbag with lots of energy.
I wonder if she will also come to other cities in Germany. I'm sure the little green men would welcome her.

In Erfurt in the old town you can meet in the street a barrel organ player. I find this very romantic.

The speciality from Thuringen is the sousage. It taste very good. The people in Thuringen they like to grill.

Erfurt has many half timbered buildings nice to look at.

Every summer (since 1994) on the steps to the St. Mary´s Cathedral there is the open-air opera music performances. This is called the Domstufen Festspiele /the Cathedral Steps Festival.

The Karneval on the streets of Erfurt.

Try the local speciality - Thüringer Rostbratwurst.
It is a more than 800 jears old tradition and you get it in almost every local restaurant and in some local fast-food-snack-shops as well.
