    Kornmarktkirche

    by Kathrin_E Written Jun 11, 2009

The former Franciscan church of St. Crucis (Holy Cross) in Kornmarkt (grain market) has been named after its location. The monastery was closed in the reformation. The church was used for services until 1802 and then profaned.

In DDR times it was turned into a museum about the Peasants War. When I visited in 2001 the old DDR exhibition was still there - lots of political interpretations and "red snow", to me as a Wessi this was both interesting and scary.
In 2003 a new modern exhibition has been opened in the museum.

    Opening hours: Tues-Sun 10:00-17:00
    Entrance fee: adults € 3, concessions € 2

Wall and towers at Lindenbhl 4 more images

    by Kathrin_E Written Jun 11, 2009

The inner town wall, built in the 12th century, that surrounds the old town is almost completely preserved. Six complete and five incomplete towers and one gatehouse still exist.

The prettiest parts are the eastern side along Lindenbühl and the southwestern corner with Frauentor and Rabenturm. Walk along the outer side of the wall.
At Frauentor a part of the wall can be climbed for a view of the old town which is dominated by the impressive white Marienkirche.

    Allerheiligenkirche

    by Kathrin_E Written Jun 11, 2009

The small Allerheiligenkirche in the norhtern part of the old town has, to me,, the most elegant among Mühlhausen's many steeples.

The church is profaned and is used for exhibitions.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Working brewery in the beautiful Thüringen town of Mühlhausen. Biergarten (Beer garden) in the Summer but partially open courtyard setting 'inside' is good any time of the year. Bright colour menu showing all of the food available from soups through to steaks and much more. Good selection of drinks, including their own brewed beers as well as schnapps and plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for the driver! A highspot is the local Thüringer Sausage - it's 1m long (39 inches!) and comes on a long wooden serving dish together with bread and mustard.

Friendly staff and VERY reasonable prices - main dishes cost between 8 Euros and 15 Euros.

Favorite Dish: I love the Schweinhaxe - Roast Pork on the bone with plenty of crispy crackling. It comes with Bratkartoffeln (fried sliced potatoes), Sauerkraut and gravy. Tasty, Filling, really authentic local dish costing less than 9 Euros - brillaint value.
