If one doesn't mind a 2 hours drive, which it takes from Nordhausen to Bispingen (on my page earlier), then there at Ralf Schumacher Kart & Bowl Kart Center, visitors can get an extra ordinary opportunity to do or to observe motorsport. Wasn't sure yet whether to put this among sports and outdoors or off the beaten path. Sure is, one definitively needs to be sportive and needs to love a certain speed, to do this motorsport. Then fun should be promised. Not my taste of sport yet interesting to be a spectator of those kart racers who amazingly, keeping control over their open, four-wheeled speeding karts, racing on scaled-down circuits. The organizer provides a great web page with English translation.

Karts vary widely in speed and some (known as Superkarts) can reach speeds exceeding 160 miles per hour (260 km/h)..A KF1 kart, with a 125 cc 2-stroke engine and an overall weight including the driver of 150 kilograms has a top speed of 85 miles per hour (137 km/h). It takes a little more than 3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph with a 125 cc shifter kart (6 gears), with a top speed of 115 miles per hour (185 km/h) on long circuits..A single geared, 125cc, 2 stroke kart will do 0-60 in about 4-5 seconds and pull 3-4 g's through the corners. Shifter karts (karts with multiple gears), accelerate much quicker, however, have worst handling going into the corners because of added weight, and worst weight balance, however, can quickly pull out of the corners with the added power. Shifter karts also have 4 brakes, instead of the normal 1, on the single speed karts. Lap times differ by about 2-5 seconds due to the shifter karts advantages.

Yes, in joy you shall depart,
    in peace be brought back,
    mountains and hills
shall break out in song before you,
and all the trees of the countryside
    shall clap their hands.
    Isaiah 55:12

The most I enjoyed about that little, romantic health resort Neustadt, was its beautiful park with a lake and countless ducks, and little boats to rent with paddles. Neustadt is about 6 km from Nordhausen. This small town, on the southern slopes of the Harz, is surrounded by beautiful mixed forests and in the midst of a particularly healthy climate. With its picturesque half-timbered houses and castle ruins Hohnstein towering above the city, Neustadt has a distinctive flair.
