"Pagenhaus", in Palace Friedenstein, Gotha: Unique restaurant near palace in Gotha

Dinner in that restaurant is every time an unique event. Directly on Place Friedenstein, Gotha, with nice view from entrance of restaurant (and so from Palace) above the historic part of Gotha. Sitting in the garden outside restaurant, or in wonderful ambiente inside, beautiful.Dinners are excellent! Service is very good.Later you can walk around the Palace in a beautiful park (look for that tip). All are excellent.

Augustiner Braü: Local in Eisenach

We almost always want traditional German food on our holidays in Germany. This is where we got it. Typical friendliness, very prompt service and a lovely atmosphere.Even though this address is recommended in an Eisenach gastronomic brochure (to be found all over the place, the brochure I mean), there was not a tourist in sight on Saturday evening.Just locals. Good.They serve Augustiner beer here, a very old and famous cloister brewery in Munich.Have a look at the 5th photo, a price list of the beer and you know why we love coming to Germany. It's cheap!There are also historical theme evenings.One of the funniest comments in the menu was something like this: if you announce beforehand, we can prepare food for you to eat till you drop. The most sympathetic about this restaurant/pub is that their meat has provenance. They tell you in the menu exactly where it is from.I had the most tender...

Burgschenke „Gadem“: great dining in Wartburg at reasonable prices

When you are looking for a good restaurant at Wartburg, take Burgschaenke "Gadem" , it is a lot cheaper and also less formal that in Landgrafenstube !Burgschaenke or Burgschenke Gadem, there is an old spelling and a new one and it is that building with the half-timbered facade on my main picture. It is a nice place for your meal, a lot cheaper and also less formal than the Landgrafenstube !Burgschaenke „Gadem“ is open dailyFrom March till October : 10.00a.m. - 06.00p.m.From November till February : 10.00a.m. till 04.30p.m.PLUS in the evening upon appointment by groups of at least 20 persons ! There are lots of fancy dishes on the menu and the names of them sound really funny and interesting, in case that you are able to understand some german :Kreuzfahrers Fastenspeise (Tomatencremesuppe) 4,50 ...Küchenmamsells Knappenkessel (Grüner Bohnentopf mit Rindfleisch) 4,50 ...Landmanns...

Landgrafenstube: noble dining at Wartburg

There are several restaurants of different levels at Wartburg, but Landgrafenstube is certainly the best and a special place for festivities and celebrations of all kinds !Part of this restaurant is also the terrace that you may see on my 1st picture.Landgrafenstube is open daily April-November:12.00-03.00 and 06.00-10.00p.m.reservation of a table is recommended !Daily they serve a "Thueringer Menue" with 5 coursesfor a price around 37,- eurosmaincourses are between 14 and 23 euros This restaurant is not really my price-level and in such a lovely day I did not want to spend my time in a restaurant, but rather explore the Wartburg...

Burgschänke: On castle Leuchtenburg

On the Castle Leuchtenburg you expects this inn for the daily stop with an original food and traditional Thuringian cooking medievally. The bars are known in the medieval celebrations (festivals) where till deeply in the night weather eye nor throat will keep dry. ;). Castle and bars lure at Christmas at spectacular Christmas celebrationses.

Thüringer Waldblick, Boxberg: with horse riding

On Boxberg that is the one of the two restaurants there. It´s the better one of both. Follow the street, you can see it from racing track. From that restaurant you can start a nice walk around the racing track and watch the horses. The view to the Thuringian Forest is unique and given the name to that house. There you also find (and can book) horse riding for adults and children, riding profis or trainees, or drive with a coach across beautiful region.But you should call before, much people take that possibility.The meals are local ones, satisfied but not the very best. Coffee and cake are good, the service is ok and the rooms are nice and comfortable.

Hotel on Creuzburg and restaurant: On the Castle, hotel and restaurant

During we visited the Castle Creuzburg in town Creuzburg (see that travel tip) we had a dinner in the restaurant therein. Of course, it has a wonderful romantic surrounding. The service was friendly and good, the dinners very good.Only the restaurant main room would need a better interior. Zander, rice and mushrooms

Biergarten Seehotel Zeulenroda: Holiday feeling at the barrage

Close to the barrage of Zeulenroda you can sit in the beergarden of the Seehotel. They offer usual wood chairs but also roofed wicker beach chairs. As everywhere in the Seehotel, the service is very kind. It’s really fantastic to sit there when the sun gets down over the barrage. The beergarden is nice for a rest after a walk around the barrage (which should also be open for swimming around 2007). The food is very simple: steak, sausages, turkey-skewer, grilled vegetable, salads and icecream.

Restaurant Seehotel Zeulenroda: Great food, wonderful view!

In the Seehotel you can also eat very well. In the penthouse you have a marvellous view over the barrage and Zeulenroda “skyline”. You can also sit outside. Service is very kind and helpful. After eating there you can got to the bowling centre in the basement (you should reserve it) for 10 Euro an hour. The food is wonderful; I especially love to stay in the hotel overnight because of the wonderful breakfast buffet. Also the salad buffet is great! I can recommend nearly everything I’ve eaten there.

Gatto Bello: Try the Sommersalat!

In the middle of Jena right in the Wagnergasse, where many of pubs and restaurants are situated, you find the “Gatto Bello”. In the summertime you can sit outside on the terrace and watch the people go by. But also in the inside it’s very nice and offers a lot of space. Service is very kind, guests in every age and the prices are very moderate. I can recommend the “Sommersalat” with turkey, different green salads, nuts and honey-curry-dressing surrounded by fresh fruits – unbelievable good! Also the “Reibekuchen mit Lachs und Kaviar” (a kind of potatoecakes with salmon and caviar) was wonderful. The portions are huge (for a woman ;-) and it tastes great.
