One of the supermarkets you'll find around here is Herkules. It's a general supermarket for daily groceries. I found that alcoholic drinks were quite good buys. I also enjoy German meat cuts (hams and such) and sausages. German brandy (Weinbrand) at € 7.50 per bottle, wodka at €7.70 per bottle, Drambuie at € 19.99 per bottle (all at 0.7 cl per bottle).A wonderful chunk of Schwarzwalder Schinken (specially cured bacon) at € 2.68 for about 300 grams.
A typically German sweet is the jelly bear. They come in all flavours. There are special jelly bear shops, anything with the word "Bär" in it. Open Mon-Sat 10-18 hrs. In Erfurt I found a shop selling licorice bears and very hot (spicy!) ginger bears and even hotter (seriously spicy!) pepper bears. € 1,80 for a bag of bears, and € 4.90 for 500 licorice.
If you're interested in Martin Luther, then have a look in the shop in the Wartburg. There are lots of books and other gifts.
There are lots of smal shops on the Kraemer bridge in Efurt. It was a great fun to watch all the beautiful things there. I think, these blue bags and other blue material is typical for the region.
