For Your Health - Brine and more

by elgin99

Bad Salzungen, the town between river Werra and mountains of Rhön are an excellent place for your healthy. There is nothing what you want miss if you decide to do a therapy in that spa. Longer time and a cure, or only one day, your body will thank for it.We visited the saline, got our white capes (guarding your clothes) and walked through the outside ways and inside brine (fog) rooms. Already after a short time we felt the salt and minerals in our bodies. It´s also interesting to see the salt water drop belong the brushwood on walls, seeing the salt cristals on all wooden parts of the halls. But therein also more: baths, pools, wellness, modern therapy methods, sauna... alot! And it is also really low priced.High recommended tip.The new Keltenbad shall be really wonderful.

by elgin99

The name coming from words mini and Thüringen, sounds and means same in speaking as miniature. And there are miniatures in truth. Models of much historic and new buildings of Thuringia in a beautiful park inmidst a little valley of town Ruhla. Some lakes give a charmingly framing. There you find also places for children to play, some animals and a restaurant.A nice tour for families with children, but also interesting only for adults.Every year they add some miniatures. So you have an overview how fascinating our history and architecture in Thuringia is. Look for the mini... and then look for the big, or the other way round.

The Palace Wilhelmsburg

by elgin99

The representative palace above the city belongs to the best preserved objects of the German late Renaissance. Not only from outside, also in the interior it is mostly in the original, and especially the palace church with its unique wooden organ derserves an visit. In palace is an interesting museum. The Palace is the cultural center of the town with organ concerts and art exhibitions. Therein are no guidance. You have to visit alone, but existing many signs and explanations (also in English and French), so you have enough time for a tour through the palace.Palace was a summer residence and connected with the time of the rebellion in Middle Age and Martin Luther.

Schmalkalden - The Half-Timbered Town

by elgin99

The old part of Schmalkalden ist an example of town architecture in Middle Europe at time of Middle Ages. She has a more than 1000 years old history. During a long time the town was in lordship of Ludowinger´s (Wartburg, see there). Since 1360 separated and in rule of Earls of Henneberg and Earl of Hesse. Because of this the town was in that time a centre of policy in Europe. The Federation of Schmalkalden against the catholic Emperor Karl V. was a markstone in Germany´s history. Also Martin Luther stayed in that time here. Many half-timbered houses make that town to a jewelry. Town so lies at German Street of Half-Timered Architecture. The Lutherhaus, famous other homes with history, remains of the town wall and Pulverturm, the beautiful church of town and eldest profane mural painting (Iwein) are seeing in the town.

The Wartburg, World Heritage

by elgin99

Unesco Heritage! Who doesn´t it know, that famous castle, because of Martin Luther or the legendary Minnesingers' Contest or "Singers' War". It´s the "German Castle", indeed, with such a long history, that I please you to read the whole history at website (in English, too) or at first my General tips about some details. The Wartburg was founded in 1067 by Ludwig der Springer . But it is also very interesting to see the history of St. Elizabeth which was canonized by Pope Gregor IX only four years after her early death in 1231.Martin Luthert translated there the New Testament from the original Greek texts into German. Also Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed at the Wartburg Castle in 1777.High above te town Eisenach on the mountain, fascinating castle with wonderful views over the Thuringian Forest. Take the guided tours through the castle museum. You will be impressed of the halls and...

Brotterode

by elgin99

A little beautiful village two kilometers "behind" the Großer Inselsberg. This vilage has nice timbered houses and many accomodations. Guest season is like Tabarz the whole year. Brotterode is famous because of its Worldcup of ski-jumping.Only some kilometers far from Tabarz, but people have totally another dialect, a charming dialect.

by elgin99

Some kilometers on the autobahn A4 to the north from my hometown the palaces high on the rock welcoming us.Dornburg itsself is a small town built on a steep rock of shelly limestone, 90 ms above the river Saale. The place is well-known for its the castles, the Old Castle, the Rococo Palace and the Renaissance Castle. The Old Castle is the one most closely connected with history of Dornburg. Frst mentioned in a document By Emperor Otto I, dated 937.The Rococo Palace, the most recent of the three, was built on behalf of Duke Ernst August of Saxony-Weimar, completed in 1747. Every year on end of June (last weekend) the children of Dornburg and a rose festival commemorating the Duke´s birthday. Not so big, not so long as the water in Gefell region, but also with the possibility to do long and nice walks round the water. It is a reservoir only for drinking water, so there is no water sport. To reach the water you have to start the walk in the valley and town. But if you want know how to come more near to water with car... ask me, I know. :))

Steinsburg Museum and the Gleichberge

by weed6886

The Gleichberge are twin mountains that dominate the area around the city of Roemhild. Before the Romans arrived in the area, the mountains were a Celtic town and fortress. The "Celtic Experience" hiking trail goes to the riuns of the fortifications and the surrounding area. The Steinsburg museum has several Celtic and Germanic artifacts from the area. It's a good place to begin any exploration of the area.
