Schmalkalden was a place, we just visited by lucky chance. And we were not dissapointed. If you like half timbered houses, don't miss to go there.
The quiet capital of Thuringia (pop. 200.000) is full of surprising corners, but none of them as impressive as the magnificent Domplatz with its own particular "achropolis" of Gothic spires.
Eisenach is another historical town in Thüringen. It s main attraction, the impressive Wartburg fortress (pictured here) is also included in the UNESCO heritage list.
