Some of the buildings date back to the 16th century. All buildings on the north side were destroyed on February 9, 1945, when the market square was hit in an Allied bombing raid.
The white building on right side is the Municipal Building, was used first as a town hall and trade centre. In World War Tow it was badly destroyed by Allied air raids and was rebuilt in 1970/71. Today it houses the "Tourist Information Centre" and a restaurant.
