most tours now and in the past...
  • Tip Rating:
  • now and in the past many multi country tours stopped along the rhine because most tours started in england or holland and included italy and switzerland. the lest expensive way and the fastest way to get to italy by land WAS and STILL is to travel down the autobahn that runs near the rhine in germany.
better way is south through france and then east to italy.
if you miss the rhine it is no great lost . the tour operators build up the stop on and the trip along the rhine becuase they do not want to admit that they are using this route to save money and time. believe me ,i spent a total of eight months traveling europe between 1977 and 1984 and also lived in towns on the rhine for eight months in 1977.

    Visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber during their Medieval Festival. Imperial City Festival, three days in which historical groups meet to re-enact events extending over seven centuries. During this event, shepherds dance to demonstrate their joy for the end of the plague. Rothenburg is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Germany. The old city walls are still standing and you can actually walk around part of the city on the city wall's walkway. There are wonderful museums like the Kriminalmuseum, where medieval torture instruments are displayed.
