by marzz3 Visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber during their Medieval Festival. Imperial City Festival, three days in which historical groups meet to re-enact events extending over seven centuries. During this event, shepherds dance to demonstrate their joy for the end of the plague. Rothenburg is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Germany. The old city walls are still standing and you can actually walk around part of the city on the city wall's walkway. There are wonderful museums like the Kriminalmuseum, where medieval torture instruments are displayed. Leave a Comment

I would always suggest a boat ride on the Chiemsee in S/E Bavaria (About 30mins west of Salzburg Austria). Beautiful lake, the alps are nearby and you can shop and dine in Salzburg. Leave a Comment

by traveldave Not only was Berlin divided, but East Germany and West Germany were divided by a wall as well. By enlarging this picture, it is possible to see the wall as it makes its way through the German countryside, just this side of a village which is located in East Germany. Leave a Comment

Mike's Bike Tours of Munich. The best tour I have ever been on. The guides show you Munich from a fresh, down-to-earth perspective(in English!); not a boring, 'in 1536, blah, blah, blah' tour. You see all of Munich in about 4 hours including lunch at a beer garden. I don't think you can get arrseted for riding a bike while intoxicated:). Telephone: 25543988 or 6514275. No reservations needed. Stop by the office near the Hofbrau Haus and pick up a schedule then meet the group at the appointed time under the of the Old Town Hall (das Altes Rathaus). Leave a Comment

On the eastern border of Bavaria there are 5 mountains: Arber, Falkenstein, Lusen, Osser, Rachel. Each of them is worth a days hiking. Leave a Comment

by Brainstorm If you have some extra free time, I would recommand you to go to a really sympatic castle in Thüringen: Die Runneburg in Weißensee! (north of Erfurt) I've worked and lived there for a month and it was just fantastic! The castle, the exibitions and the catapult(still working!) are quiet impressive... Between Duisburg and Dortmund seems to be a white spot for most visitors going to the Rhineland. In the so called ruhrgebiet once beat the industrial heart of Germany. You can still see the characteristic towers of the coalmines and the outlines of steelworks. However, the structural changes have left huge marks, lots of unemployment as well. On the other hand, the former industrial sites are turning into museums of industrial history or the scenes of theatre, jazz and modern dance. Leave a Comment
