One week in Germany - The tracks of Goethe
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is maybe the most popular German poet. To get inspiration he travelled a lot. The most famous route through Germany is today named after him. The "Goethe Route" starts in the city of the his birth, Frankfurt am Main, today the economic centre of Germany. Highlights are places like St Paul's Church or the "Roemerberg". The journey goes eastwards through the scenic region called Rhoen to Fulda, where Goethe spent most of time as teenager. Eisenach, one of Germany's cultural centres - not at least due to Martin Luther and the Wartburg Castle. Passing through Erfurt, where Goethe met Napoleon for the first time in October 1808. Erfurt has one of the most beautiful historic centres. East of Erfurt is Weimar, Germany's cultural capital. Goethe lived here from 1775 until his death. A must see in this town is Goethe's summer-house where he wrote "Iphigenie". A few...
