It has a lovely but small old centre (which is being well restored), with a 16th century town hall and some lovely historic houses. It also has the Gothic-Renaissance St. Andreas church. In the Schillerstrasse is a house (now a gallery) where Schiller and Goethe once stayed.High above the town is the huge Schloss Heidecksburg. It was largely reconstructed in the 18th century by Johann Christoph Knoffel and Gottfried Heinrich Krone. There are guided tours around the beautiful Rococo Sate rooms.

Go to the Baltic! I was VERY pleasantly surprised. Beaches ROCKED, although the water was a TAD colder than I am used to, being from Hawaii and all! And the Beach was Clothing Optional. And Lutz, given any opportunity to drop his drawers, opt-ed OUT of his clothes and convinced me as well. (It was Colder than a Hexe's "You know what!")We went to PREROW: Prerow is located in an area called 'Darss', in the north of the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Darss is one of three parts of a peninsula called 'Fishland-Darss-Zingst'. With its beautiful nature and an old forest most of this peninsula is a part of the German National Park 'Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft' and the bay of Prerow is, well-known for fine and clean sand, one of the best and most beautiful beaches of Europe.

GET OFF THE AUTOBAHN!Often the secondary roads (the B highways with the yellow signs instead of the Autobahn-like Blue signs) follow the Autobahn route pretty closely. It will take longer, but you will see so much more of the real Germany.And driving isn't such a hassle either. You for example-- will not be tooling along at 70 trying to pass a truck going 40 while a Porsche going over 100 zooms up flashing in your rear view mirror-- this is a rare occurrence.
