HAGEN : FREILICHTMUSEUM
by swesn
This is an open-air Industrial and Technical Museum. 60+ traditional buildings have been relocated here. The old industry in this region taps energy from the River Ruhr. The water-wheel, for example, had been used to burn furnaces for the making of iron and steel products like axels, nails, sickles, chains, etc… Here, handymen demonstrate the various kinds of equipment to mould the iron and steel products, perform the art of printing and papermaking, spinning, weaving, cigar-rolling, dyeing, mustard production, etc…The compound is large and there are few sheltered areas, can be HOT and sweaty in summer. As you will take a few hours to walk through, my suggestion : bring your own drinks and lunch. One can buy some of these local crafts and products at the end of this interesting museum.
