Plastic boxes with lid's ,keep thing's dry as does black bin liner's.
    Always make a list

You need, water-proof's, good strong footwear.
A pair of jogging trouser's for ease around the campsite.

Always remember to take a little more than you need. Have a couple of hook's to stick on the door to hang thing's on. When going to the toilet block, keep your toiletries in a carrier bag stops then getting wet. Always take a First aid Kit, suntan Lotion and insect repellent

Nothing special ,just what you would normally take.

Take enough gas to last your trip, if possible. Camping gas it available, but not Calor gas. Have a supply of tin's for emergency's. Keep matches in a container to keep dry. Don't camp under tree's or near water. Make sure you are well pegged down
guy rope's as well. Take spare batteries, toilet paper, torch, tent peg's to suit all types of ground, some can be hard and stony. Bottled water, always have some on board. Always make a list, including all your camping equipment.

Always camp in safe place's. Take purifying table's to put in your water container. Keep all food of the ground, I use plastic box's with lid's. Ant powder and insect repellent are a must. Most thing's can easily be found in Germany, there campsite's are usually of a good standard.
Don't forget your Camping Carnet from your travel club or insures many site's give you a reduction if you have one.
The speed limit when towing is 55mph.

  • A rucksack or a light travelling bag for you to carry along with you when touring Germany. It will become handy when you pruchase some small items such as postcards and small souvenirs.

Summer can be quite hot in Germany, therefore light clothing may be necessary. But please bring along a light jacket in case it becomes chilly with lower temperature. It can be quite cold in the evening. You definitely need thick winter jacket if you decide to visit Germany during winter.

Don't forget to bring along with you your daily supplies of medicines if you are on medication. We would suggest painkillers and headache tablets in case you fall sick during your vacation! Other items you may consider are plasters for minor cuts, nail-creeper and small scissors.

You are not supposed to forget to bring along your digital camera, camcorder plus accessories such as battery, battery charger and memory cards.

Bring along an umbrella or a raincoat in case it rains as it rains quite a lot during spring and autumn. Also bring along your swim wear if you decide to swim along the coast such as in Kiel.

Miscellaneous items to be brought with you include mobile phone and its battery charger, mp3 player, iPod, maps of Germany and guide books etc.

I stress - bring light-weight luggage and bags, and leave half the stuff you want to pack at home. The reason for this is that many will be staying in hotels and guest houses, where they:
    a) don't have parking near the accomodation
    b) are not anywhere near the train station
    c) do not have elevators, even though they have multiple stories.

Murphy's law says that your hotel is going to be located the farthest point away from the train station, on the top floor, on the most swealtering day, and you're exhausted on that day.

Comfortable clothing is best for travel. Bring a few changes for hot and cold weather.

It rains a lot in Germany, so bring appropriate rain gear. Germany is located in a temperature zone, so you should always bring a coat - even in summer.

Bring at least 2 pair of comfortable walking shoes, to change, so that you won't get blisters from walking. Ladies, leave your high-heels at home, because high heels and cobble stones just don't mix.

You should just bring basic toiletries. If you need something else, I can't think of any toiletries that aren't readily available in Germany.

You should bring an adequate amount of prescription drugs you think you will need to cover your trip. Although Germany has a very good standard of medicine, you may not always be able to obtain your brand of medication in Germany. Bring a copy of your prescription, so that a drug store can help you get your medication if you lose it.

Bring whatever you like - chemical film, tapes and digital chips are readily available in Germany.

I suggest you select photo equipment that have regular size batteries (AA or AAA), because you can purchase an inexpensive battery recharger for 220 V/50 Hz in any electronic shop.

If you are going on a sports trip in Germany, the airlines are accommodating if you want to bring special outdoor equipment, such as diving tanks, skiis, and bicycles.

If you need something special, but forgot it at home, you can but it there - Germany is one of the world's leading consumers for outdoor gear.

If you want to use your cell phone in Germany, talk to your provider first before you come, so they will switch you "on" outside of your country.

If you are coming from North America, you will have to talk to your network provider for arranging an exchange cell phone, because your phone won't work in Germany. Germany is on the GSM standard (Global Standard for Mobile telephones). Most North American providers have cell phone exchange services for the duration of your stay in Germany.

Pack lightly. My daughters learnt this tip recently. Hahah, this luggage is for 4 people.....still too much.

For those not used to cold weather, i recommend (at the least) thermal under garments. These are so effective and reduced my need for extra heavy layers of clothing.

    an UMBRELLA. self explanatory.
If you plan for staying in Germany especially long (like, more than 4 days) you might invest in a solar light bulb. these have certain rays that help simulate sunlight, so that when July--oops, I mean winter rather--hits, you will be able to chemically be happy by pretending that you have been frolicking in sunlight instead of hiding away in your apartment because of all the rain. seasonal affective disorder is a very REAL and DANGEROUS affliction and must be treated as soon as possible!
sunglasses are not needed for obvious reasons, but people seem to wear them anyway

make sure to get film that compensates for the pitch black noon skies!

  • Even in the summer there are a lot of rainfalls. 10 years ago it didn't rain in July - but that changed.
Nowadays its sometimes so cold you have to wear a jacket. So be prepared!

Everything available in shops and pharmacies.

Make sure to bring much money so that you can sample every type of beer. Also, a lot of Pepto-Bismol for when the beer affects your stomach!!!

Leave some room in your bag to take back a bag of gummi bears (not just bears, but all kinds of yummy shapes and flavors). As far as I know, there are locations in Frankfurt a.M. (see my Frankfurt page for directions) and Wiesbaden.

Bring layers! My first trip to Germany was in the summer, and so I thought I wouldn't need warm clothes; wrong!! At the moment (July 6, 2001) it is extremely hot out, but last July felt more like November and I was wearing my winter coat.

If you wear contacts, note that contact solution is not available at grocery stores. You have to get it from an optical store, and it is pretty expensive. Non-presription medicine is also not found at grocery stores. You'll have to ask for what you need at a Pharmacy (look for the big red A sign outside). Shampoo, deo, toothpaste, etc. can be found in grocery stores.
