Make sure you bring a large suitcase so you have plenty of room for all the souvenirs you'll bring home!! A rain jacket and a couple of sweaters are definately must have items. Make sure to bring at least one extra battery for your camera. You want to have one that takes really good, clear pics with a decent zoom lens for the far away shots.

I was there in September and was quite lucky to have two weeks of almost constant sunny skies. It only rained for one day I believe. The weather and terrain is very comparable to Seattle, Wa in the Northwest US. Temps in the 80's F in the summer with snow in the winter. The nights in September were usually a little cool requiring a light jacket. Widely available although there arent any 7/11's like some Americans may be used to. Germans dont know much about 'open 24 hrs' Wealth of photo ops with all the beautiful castles. I highly recommend a ferry trip on the Rhine for some great pictures of the castles along the river.

Well, with all those sights you just have to take lots of film!!! I would suggest packing at least two cameras, especially in summer. No, it's not that in summer they break down more quickly:))) It is just that you should put different films in them. One should be charged with ISO 200 film - the weather is almost always sunny, so it would be a right idea. And the other is to have ISO 400 (or, even better, ISO 800) film so that you would get good photos inside the Cathedrals and other monuments (or at night) when can not or do not wish to use flash. As for availability, all the photo supplies you might possibly need can be found easily in Germany. I actually got my first photo camera there:))) ATMs and Plastic money: they are the most convenient way to take your money abroad. You get lots of benefits and (almost!!) no problems. You'll get lower exchange rate than if you were to exchane...

Leave some room in your bag to take back a bag of gummi bears (not just bears, but all kinds of yummy shapes and flavors). As far as I know, there are locations in Frankfurt a.M. (see my Frankfurt page for directions) and Wiesbaden. Bring layers! My first trip to Germany was in the summer, and so I thought I wouldn't need warm clothes; wrong!! At the moment (July 6, 2001) it is extremely hot out, but last July felt more like November and I was wearing my winter coat. If you wear contacts, note that contact solution is not available at grocery stores. You have to get it from an optical store, and it is pretty expensive. Non-presription medicine is also not found at grocery stores. You'll have to ask for what you need at a Pharmacy (look for the big red A sign outside). Shampoo, deo, toothpaste, etc. can be found in grocery stores.

One handbag for clothes.I packed enough clothes to do only one wash on a two week vacation. And one backpack that I carry everywhere. Keep to a minimum. Plan for rainy days (I had one dayof sun in two week). But dont be cheap on shoes, buy the best you can afford. Antibacterial hand soap for day to day travel.Band aid for blisters. Sun block. Paper tissues. I have a digital camera with enough memory to take about 600 photos. For me it was enough. I brought a 220/110 volt adapter with my charger. I charge my batteries every night after a long day. Dont overload yourself with camping or hiking gear if you plan to do it only a day or two. There are a lot of place where you can rent for cheap. Bring some extra credit card or a different way to get money. One of my card did not work after only two days. There are automatic teller everywhere in Germany even small towns. Very easy to use...

When you come to Germany, whether it be for a few days or a few years, there are a few things you should always with you. Bring an empty stomach. The food here is exceptional. Bring a camera with tons of film. You can go from mountains to rivers to castles to farms all in the same day. Won't you want to remember that? Bring an insatiable appetite for beauty. You'll find plenty of it here, along with friendly people who love having you here. You won't leave empty handed, I promise you. You will take with you joy for having experienced Germany, at its finest.

its a good idea to bring both warm weather clothes and cool weather gear in the spring and summer months. it is wet and cold in the winter so be prepared! one very important item to have with you isA RAINCOAT OR UMBRELLA!!!!!!! dont forget , this is europe we are talking about here. rain coats are better becausr there is nothing more irrtating than to get poked and prodded but the person in front or behind you in line somewhere with their big umberlla! so my advice is to spen the money on a very good rain coat that will keep you dry. bring rain gear!!!!! wet in the spring and summer and cold in the winter! pretty typical huh? more info in the luggage and bags section, make sure you arent trying to break those new pair of shoes in here! comfortable shoes is a must. if you go against this see the next section about medical supplies. if you are trying to break in a a new pair of shoes...
