Rathauskeller in Wuerzburg: great food and a lovely interior

by globetrott

This is the Ratskeller in Wuerzburg, Rat has nothing to do with rats but it is the german name for a the lord-mayor and the municipal council and whenever you are in a german or austrian town with a big city-townhall, take a look for the restaurant there, because 98% of all of these townhalls have their own restaurant, called "Ratskeller" and like in Wuerzburg it is mostly also in the cellar. In most cases the food is excellent ( simply because the "government" of the town always knows what is best for themselves) and also the interior is very special, neo-gothic or Jugendstil etc.I was lucky to be able to take a look into some of the various side-rooms with great and interesting interior, see also my other pics ! I just had a cup of coffee there, but next time I will have dinner there !

Alte Mainmühle: taste the Bratwurst

by globetrott

First of all this great restaurant in Wuerzburg / Bavaria is next to the old bridge over the river Main and it has some great terraces & balconies facing the river (see 2nd pic!). From these terraces you will see the castle Marienberg like in my pic. #4.I did not eat inside their restaurant, but simply ordered some of their sausages to take away, conveniently "packed" in a crispy roll, see them in my main picture. On my 3rd picture you can see the counter, where to order these sausages, they come freshly roasted from the charcoal-grill and will help you to be strong enough to climb up the steps to the castle of Marienberg ! ;-)Click on their web-page and you will hear the sound of the river Main ! Mühlenbratwürste vom Holzkohlengrill(3 Stück im Weck)zum Mitnehmen am Tresen 2,- Euro_____________________So you get 3 small sausages of the typeNuernberger Rostbratwuerste and some...

Bäckerei Trump: Taste a Snowball in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

by globetrott

Bäckerei Trump is a small bakery in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and you will find it next to Markusturm. I was searching for a 2nd breakfast and I also wanted to try the famous Schneeballen, that I saw at so many places in Rothenburg. In my main photograph you will see the Schneeballen / snowball, and when you click on my picture, you will see how it is made.Make sure your teeth are in good order......or be prepared to wave good-bye to them, when eating Schneeballen !!Once in a lifetime is enough, BUT I may imagine that this desert gets better, when stored a long time, maybe in a tin-box, like in the old times, like cookies at Christmas-time.I payed 1,40 Euros for the Schneeballen and they also had different ones coated with chocolate or cinnamon etc..

Der Bauer Stube: fantastic food which will beat the biggest appetit

by Gwynfiguy

The food in this restaurant is in the top class the way it is served and the demenour of the serving staff is impecable,The amount of food is gargatuan as is the way of the German psyche. The main meal is usually brought in two halves so that e.g. bienna Schnitzel . will come with two schnitzels and two portions of everythging else the extra is kept hot at a side table whilst you eat your first part. There is (for us with the small appetite) Seniortellen ( senior meals) which is just half the normal meal.Do not expect quick service as each meal is indevidually made and served and can take time to arrive , but is well worth the wait The whol menu is great but the steaks are out of this world

Tip Photo
Schwartzwald Cafe: Gateau to die for

by Gwynfiguy

Just a little Cafe / Konditorei in Munstertal opposite the Raileay station. It does coffee and cake, snacks and small meals serves wine and beer and as a small pension that provides clean pleasent bedrooms and adequate brakfast ( ask Ricky 52what they are like).Prices are in keeping with the area and the staff are friendly although their English is limited. Wurst Salad,,,, Plenty of it and an aromatic dressing and it doesn't break the bank

Stadtkrug: The ribs are a must!

by zepdude

The Stadtkrug is a rustic little restaurant in a hotel (I believe of the same name) in Baumholder that serves some of the best barbequed spareribs that I have ever had! It is a small place with a few tables and, if they are full, you can sit at the bar and they will take your order so you don't have to wait when you finally get a table. They have an open pit grill and you can see them preparing the ribs. The room is decorated with license plates from all of the 50 U.S. states as well as signed photos of many of the commanding officers and high ranking officers that have passed through the Army base here. As my son pointed out to me, one of the photos is of a leader of the squad that found Saddam Hussein. The Ribs, hands down. Order lots of beer and dig in!

Hard Rock Cafe Munich: Grab a burger and fries

by JREllison

It's not that we have a thing for Hard Rock Cafes, it started out as somewhere that we could pick up a inexpessive gift for a sister-in-law back in the states who collects Hard Rock Pins. Now its become a fun thing to check off on our to do list when we travel. Munich's Hard Rock is just a couple streets off Marienplatz which is the main square for tourists. Its easy to find and you can always cound on familar food. As always a burger and fries.

Backmulde: Bright and sophisticated food!

by TheVague

Actually it's the restaurant of the upstairs homonym hotel, but you can go even if you aren't a hotel guest. The environment is rather cosy and the waiters are incredibly gentle. The food is always according to the season.

Restaurants in Germany

by DanielF

Traditional local fare in German restaurants comes in large portions and is hearty and uncomplicated, based mostly on pork and potatoes. It would have been hard to believe years ago but German cuisine is indeed living a periode of splendour. After many years under the tyranny of French haute cuisine, many contemporary German chefs are turning their eyes to their origins and exploring the possibilities that local products and traditional recipes offer in terms of innovation and creativity. The neue deutsche Küche is inspired by the Slow Food movement as well as by the already consolidated new American and Spanish cuisines. It excels in the used of the so-called bio products, grown in organic farms.

"Saloniki" bei Warsteiner: Western Germany - Great Greek!

by OlRockBear

My trips to Germany have a tendency to have a culinary focus. I find that even the simplest lunch stand there has better food than many American restaurants. If you like out of the way finds that leave you delighted (and full!), I can highly recommend this small gem in the city of Prum, near the western Border. It is a delightful village (we saw many others in this region, of course) but had been directed there specifically for the food. We weren't disappointed. The staff of this cozy establishment (6 (?) tables inside.. more outside..) were genuinely friendly and attentive. As I recall, our waitress was Anastasia and I think it was the first time I ever actually felt like I was at home in a restaurant. They have German food as well as Greek food - both were terrific. We had seven different dishes on the table and shared samples. Everything was incredible. Their Greek wines were a nice...
