This market was in the middle of a central square. They sold fuits and vegatables. It was very exotic. Goods were cheaper than in the supermarket.

    Saarbrücken Transportation

Being a state capital has some advantages, and despite its small size, Saarbrucken gets its own high-speed ICE line, making it easy to reach from anywhere in Germany. In about two hours the line takes you as far as Frankfurt, from where you can go just about anywhere. Regionally there are direct lines to towns like Kaiserslautern, Trier and...

    Mettlach Shopping

Mettlach has built a reputation of being an outlet town, but contrary to most outlets the shops there are not in a mall, but all in the centre, among cafés and other small shops. Villeroy & Boch have several shops , one of them a Christmas shop with beautiful Christmas ornaments. Other brand names are Trigema, Land's End, Laura Ashley and several...

    Mettlach Things to Do

About the only thing Mettlach is famous for which has nothing to do with ceramics is the loop of the Saar. The best viewpoint is high above the river, in Cloef/Orscholz, a part of Mettlach. The view from there has to be the most often photographed view in the whole state and the trail along the river and then up to the Cloef is one of the best...

At the top of the hill you will find the stadium. The local club, FC Homburg 08 Saar, is just a shadow of its former glories. Once they played in Germany's...

  • Volklinger Hutte

    Völklingen Things to Do

The Hutte is probably Volklinger's only real draw. But it's a big one. Not only in terms of being a big magnet for tourists, but just through the sheer enormity of the complex. It's almost as big as the town itself. The UNESCO protected World Heritage site was once a bustling, noisy, steaming ironworks. And despite all the cleaning and restoration,...

    Völklingen Shopping

Well, maybe not to die for, but at least to forget all about the million calories éclairs have.We had been told about a very good bakery, somewhere between Grossrosseln and Petite-Rosselle. This somewhere consists of a bridge, maybe 20 meters long. No bakery on this bridge, so we walked on into Petite-Rosselle. And sure enough, just after the first...

    Ottweiler Things to Do

The defense and bell tower's three major steel made bells, done their service from 1921 to 2007, are removed off the tower and brought to the Rhododendron park, near the church. It's an amazing sight of such dignity as their inscriptions are a true reminder of God and His infinite love.

  • Barefoot path in Waldhölzbach

    Losheim Things to Do

A longer and more interesting barefoot path than the one near the lake is in Waldhölzbach. It starts at the main street next to the restaurant Forellenhof. There's a shelf where you can put your shoes, but we prefered to carry them with us. There's also a bench where you can wash your feet in the water of the small river after you did the tour.The...

    Losheim Restaurants

The restaurant is close to the lake with view on the lake from their terrace. There just were a large party in the restaurant but we could eat there anyway and were in a adjacent room. • Kneippanlage (Kneipp facility)

    Losheim Things to Do

Near the lake is a so-called Kneippanlage with a tank of cold water that you can walk through and one where you can put your arms in. As of Kneipp this is good for your cardiovascular system – and after a long hike, walking through this cold water makes your feet feel much better! This place is very nice and well maintained, and includes also a...

  • The best place in town...the only place...

    Kirrberg Restaurants

The owner was actually a jerk. That's probably why they went out of business, considering there is only one other restaurant in town that I have seen in the 2 years I've lived there. There is now another restaurant in it's place, but I don't know what type it is. Once we give it a try, we'll update this information.

  • Another "the only one"

    Kirrberg Nightlife

I've been told that there is one bar in the town. This is the place where people gather to have conversations about their cows and sheep. Since I don't owe any, I couldn't attend the meeting :-))
