We had chosen our hotel because of this restaurant. It was the first certified restaurant in the Saarland using only organic food or meat from free range farms. The menu is small, not too many choices, but a good variety including vegetarian dishes. All products are from the area, no shipping across all of Europe, which is another plus in my mind.
Everything is prepared freshly, so expect to sit a while. I had a very good Rosé wine from the Saar , my husband the equally good local pils.
The food was delicious! We had rumpsteak and cordon bleu, with a good selection of potatoes, vegetables and salads. We paid about 60 Euro for our meal.
The restaurant is slightly more expensive than average, but you always have to pay more for organic food and especially for free range meat. There are not too many vineyards along the Saar , and any wine from there is more expensive than from other areas in Germany. The pils was actually cheaper than average, probably because it is considered basic in the Saarland.
All I can say our meal was worth every cent.

I was a steel worker from 1977 - 80 so this was a great day out for me, a visit to the UNESCO Völklinger Hütte, a preserved iron making plant. Lots more on things to do tips.

LIttle town with great treasures

Walking along this little town was pretty nice even if the weather was crazy. Time to time I think that this picture is a trick that came out of that :)
