Every shop in Germany is interesting to me: What to buy in Germany

by Gluhwein

This may sound stupid, but I strongly advise you to stop in a German Walmart should you pass by one. Much different than ours back home. Before you walk in to the store you will see snack bars (Imbiss) set up outside. You can get a cheap lunch of a sausage sandwich, fries and a drink for under 5 euro.Inside Walmart you can find souvenirs near the checkout counters. Expect to pay half the price of the souvenir stands next to the actual tourist attractions. Good deals on t-shirts and gizmos such as wine bottle openers and kitchen utensils. This is also the best place to buy more batteries. Buy your knives and cuckoos elsewhere though. In the food portion of the Supercenter you can stock up on candy, toiletries you may have forgotten, chips, the absolute cheapest soda in Europe, and cheese. You can even buy the fixings to have a picnic. In Trier I saw one liter bottles of cooking wine for...

Media Markt is the place to go when it comes to all kinds of electronic goods such as computers, tvs, hi fi systems, cameras, kitchen appliances etc. Furthermore they sell software programmes, cds, computer accesoires and so on.There should be at least one Media Markt in all of the bigger German towns and cities.

Yes, another of this not so shopping tips for the average tourist, but if you do drive in Germany because you live in neighbouring country, it might be wise to stop over in one of these home tools and furnishing stores, they have wide selection of tools, items, ideas and whatever, prices was significantly cheaper then other countries I visited, especially compare to Scandinavia.

The Tchibo stores located all over Germany, I am not so sure about its history, something that started from a coffee shop and expand to sell interesting items that are very good price for value. Among great items I bought here are: Fashion, house tools & electronics, kitchen tools etc.

Aldi: Aldi

by Gili_S

You can find the Aldi stores all over Germany, it will almost certainly be cheaper in Aldi then any other store and the quality will be also with the high German standards. The basic is food items but sometimes they have great deals or special items from electronics, bicycle or whatever.

Christmas Markets

by DanielF

Germany has a great tradition of Christmas markets. They are the perfect excuse to visit the country during the month of December, when days get dark soon and the icy air invites to drink mulled wine. The most famous German Christmas Market is held in Nürnberg (pictured). You can find here from fast food stalls to Christmas decorations and ideas for gifts. These miniature reproductions of real German Fachwerk-houses are a good idea to decorate the Nativity scene.

Supermarkets

by nepalgoods

There are supermarkets at every corner. You can buy just everything in a supermarket. I prefer the small shops. On the other hand I am a very lazy person. So I frequently do my shopping in the small supermarket opposite of the place where I live.

Turkish Shops

by nepalgoods

Almost everywhere you'll find small shops and supermarkets owned by Turkish or oriental people. They sell the food and vegetables, which the Turkish people prefer. I love those shops. The people are always very friendly and helpful. The vegetables are very fresh. I love Turkish bread, olives and cheese.
