Parfumerie: Cosmetic Shop

by Weissdorn

Although you can buy cosmetics in Germany in a department store, many choose to buy them in a "Parfümerie", a cosmetic shop. These are specialty shops, which only sell bottled scents and cosmetics. The biggest chain of cosmetic shops (at least on in every larger town) is called "Douglas" or "Pieper". The prices are standard. This is where you should go, if you want to buy geniune Parfume. They even sell some strictly European brands here. Pleasant is that they will always pack your purchase in gift wrapping paper if you are bringing it back with you as a present. This service is free of charge. There isn't too much in the way of negotiating prices, since things like luxury tax and VAT are not negotiable, and this is usually a chain kind of store. Ask the sales person if they have some specials, if you would like to save money.

Blumengeschäft: Buying Flowers in Germany

by Weissdorn

Fresh flowers are very popular in Germany, and there isn't a town that doesn't have a flower shop. This is always an appropriate gift for a host or someone's birthday.Fresh flowers almost all come exclusively from the Netherlands, and are trucked all over in Germany daily. If you want a special bouquet, go to a flowershop. A bouquet of flowers is called in German a "Blumenstrauß". Flowers and colours have traditional meanings in Germany, especially roses. If you're not sure what to buy - buy Tulips (Tulpen) - they are always "safe". Ask your florist for advice, they will be happy to help you. There is a chain of discount flowershops in almost every large German town called "Blume 2000", who offer discount prices on flowers. A professional bouquet costs between 15-100 Euro - your florist can help you find something to fit your price budget.

Winter & Summer Sale

by Mandy23

If you are looking for bargains the best time of year to shop is the end of January for the Winterschlußverkauf (WSV) - January Sales and the end of July for Sommerschlußverkauf (SSV) - Summer Sales. The laws dictate that the winter sale may start on the last Monday in January and the summer sale on the last Monday in July. Each sale may last only 12 days, and it can only include clothing and other textiles, shoes, leather goods and sporting equipment, left over from the previous season at considerably reduced rates. However, most shops start offering reduced price articles and special offers long before the official date so that all that is left on the shelves when the real WSV or SSV begin are goods specifically manufactured for the sales. As usual, the storm on the stores began at 8 a.m.

all over Germany: Toys

by Audrey118

Germany is a very famous toymaker. While I was there, they were going to have their annual toy fair. And there is even a toy museum in Nuremberg. Lots of nice woodcraft toys can be seen all over Germany, and i\even in Karstdt departmental shops there are plenty to offer. Steiff bears are also very famous in Germany - some of them are collectables. The prices vaired according to the design, size, quality - most are so individual looking it is hard to make a decision.
