Lower Saxony

by nepalgoods

Lower Saxony is my home and I think, the most beautiful country. It has beautiful beaches, some very nice islands, wast forests and the lovely Harz Mountains in the south.Beside Hannover, which is famous for its big Industrial Fair, there are wellknown and beautiful small towns like Celle or Bueckeburg (sorry: no pages about this places!). And there are the undiscovered gems of beauty like Stadtoldendorf. For the lovely countryside see Lüneburger Heide

Mercedes Museum

by donpaul77

If you find yourself in Stuttgart, you should make some time to visit the Mercedes Museum. It's a reasonable cab ride from the train station and I think it was about 8 euro to get in. The museum features an 8 floor historical display of the great cars and innovations Mercedes has developed over the years. The building itself is a pretty cool piece of architecture. The tour starts at the top, and you walk in a spiral fashion down the bottom floor. You begin with the past and move into the present. At the bottom floor is a nice gift shop with all sorts of Mercedes merchandise. The museum is open daily from 9am to 6pm.

Frankfurt Auto Show

by donpaul77

Do you love cars? Do you love cars with fashion models leaning against them? Then you have to go to the Frankfurt Auto Show, at the Messe Frankfurt. The autoshow is a week long event in September (just before Octoberfest) that features all of the newest designs from every car manufacturer in the world. From Mitsubishi to Maybach, you will see everything here. The show is open to the public over the weekend, for a small fee (15 euro?). The two days before that are "industry days" and the price is a little higher, but still pretty much public. The first two days are press days and you have to have connections to get in (which I did ;). I felt like a kid in a candy shop with all of the slick, glittering cars, most of which you could sit in and get a really good flt for the interior detailing. Often, one of the lovely models will even offer to take your picture in the car. There is such a...

Weltenburger Kloster Brauerei

by donpaul77

If the weather is fine and you love beer, scenery and history, a trip to the Weltenburger Kloster is a must. This is the oldest monastery brewery in the world. While you are there, you can drink the fantastic beer, take a tour of the historic brewery, and take a stroll around the beautiful grounds. Another great thing to do is take a ferry ride up and down the Donau (Danube) River. The ferry leaves from a dock right next to the monastery.I really enjoyed this visit. You can spend an entire day here, and you could even pack a picnic (and have more money for beer!)(Also, if you are a rock climber, the cliffs along the Donau are pretty tempting!)*The brewery tour is about 9 euro and well worth it. You get to sample the beer and are given a souvenir mug.

A symbol of idealised romantic architecture

by csordila

A tour in King Ludwig II's famous fairy tale castle, Neuschwanstein starts in the village of Schwangau, east of Fussen in the Bavarian Alps, not far from the Austrian-German border. The train from Munich Hauptbahnhof (central train station), leave early morning to Kaufbeuren, where you have to change to another one, which already has its terminal in Füssen. From the station there are buses, No. 78 and 73, to Schwangau. In center of the village you can get a horse drawn carriage that will take you up to Neuschwanstein for €5 up and €2.50 down, ticket for a 35 minute tour in the castle costs €9 (2005 prices). To reach the castle from below takes 30-40 minutes .The interior of the castle features paintings of Bavarian knights and folk heroes. Taking photos is not allowed. If you want just to walk up and view the castle from the outside, you do not need any ticket.King Ludwig, after all, only...

Follow "The Pied Piper of Hamelin"

by Ruhrbuerger

I recommend to visit Hameln (Hamelin). Its home of "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" (a famous folk tale). Hameln is a beautiful small city (58,000 citizens) with lots of typical timber-framing houses. It is beautifully located by the Weser river, beside hills. They offer sightseeing tours with guides dressed up like the Pied Piper what is a good oportunity to get a glimpse of medieval Europe :-)Hameln is just 25 minutes away from Autobahn A2. Leave A2 on junction 35 'Bad Eilsen' and follow the signs to Hameln on road B83.
