It was the first Roman catholic church to be built in Berlin. It is the seat of archbishop of Berlin although it attained the status of cathedral only in 1930.Cathedral of St. Hedwig was designed by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, the same architect who designed the Staatsoper located just in front of the cathedral (as depicted on our photograph above). The cathedral was constructed during the reign of King Frederick II to dedicate to Saint Hedwig of Andechs in the middle of the 18th century so that Roman Catholic Silesian immigrants had a place to worship. Tiergarten, Berlin

by hopang

Tiergarten (Animal Garden in English) is a giant wooded inner city park that stretches from West Berlin to Central Berlin. It covers a total area of approximately five square kilometers. It is undoubtedly the largest green park in the city of Berlin. Tiergarten was designed by Peter Joseph Lenné. It was inaugurated in the year 1860. Roughly in the center of the park lies the famous Victory Column (Siegessäule) as you can see from our third photograph. Other popular attractions in the park include Kulturforum, Schlosspark Bellevue, Potsdamer Platz, Bismarck Memorial and Sowjetisches Ehrenmal. Brandenburg Gate is located at the edge (eastern end) of Tiergarten. Tiergarten is certainly a great location to relax with lots of green, to take a stroll, to breath fresh air, picnic, or simply to chill out to escape the chaos of the city's traffic. It is also a favourite meeting place for the...
