The Kaiserthermen (Imperial Baths) in Trier
The Kaiserthermen were the Imperial baths built by the Emperor Constantine at the beginning of the 4th century A.D. however they were never actually completed. Even by Roman standards the Kaiserthermen was quite large and elaborate. At the time, they would have been decorated with mosaics, sculptures and gardens. Artifacts from these paths are on display at the nearby Archaeological Museum which I visited before I headed to the Kaiserthermen. Today all that remains are the perimeter walls so it takes a good imagination to picture the grandeur of the baths as they were in Roman times. The baths consisted of one huge semicircular pool accompanied by two smaller pools of hot spring water. Today you explore the maze of corridors beneath the baths where slaves would maintain the heating system and drainage of the baths. The Kaiserthermen is open from 9am to 6pm. The admission price is 2.10...
