The Kaiserthermen (Imperial Baths) in Trier

by Paul2001

The Kaiserthermen were the Imperial baths built by the Emperor Constantine at the beginning of the 4th century A.D. however they were never actually completed. Even by Roman standards the Kaiserthermen was quite large and elaborate. At the time, they would have been decorated with mosaics, sculptures and gardens. Artifacts from these paths are on display at the nearby Archaeological Museum which I visited before I headed to the Kaiserthermen. Today all that remains are the perimeter walls so it takes a good imagination to picture the grandeur of the baths as they were in Roman times. The baths consisted of one huge semicircular pool accompanied by two smaller pools of hot spring water. Today you explore the maze of corridors beneath the baths where slaves would maintain the heating system and drainage of the baths. The Kaiserthermen is open from 9am to 6pm. The admission price is 2.10...

Erfurt

by MichaelFalk1969

Erfurt is a historic city in eastern Germany with a stunning medieval Old Town. The most impressive view here is the Cathedral Square (Domplatz), with a view on the staircase leading to the Cathedral and the Church of St. Severin. Another feature is the "Krämerbrücke" bridge - houses and shops were built on this bridge that dates back to the 12th century (somewhat like the "Ponte Vecchio" in Italy). Erfurt has plenty of half-timbered houses - an exceptionally good preserved example is the Old Town Hall at the "Fischmarkt" square.

Check point Charlie

by Puckfair

i guess this is the most authentic of the Tourist points in Berlinit does'nt feel as sanitised as other areas yet it is not the original deal Checkpoint Charlie was removed on June 22, 1990. The former Allied guardhouses are now located in theAllied Museum.A copy of the American guardhouse was errected on the original place on August 13, 2000.The picture says it all /There was 2 people depicting US and Russian army officials standing at this with flags so it made a good picture opportunityThough u had to pay them to get yourself in the picture !Good tip there is very cheap indian /asian restaurants nearby , lunch would be about 3-4 euros. my boyfriend had a gyros , or as they call it a kebab and he was full all day There are some small stands where u can get your pic taken with a Russian army coat + hat but i'd say by the smell of them u 'd prop pick up something Old army medals if real...

Bus 100

by Puckfair

The Bus number 100 does take you through alot of the Sights /on a Budget thing is all the tourists know about this , and of course it can get very busy - We got on this Bus after walking all the way to the Reichstag so would have gone anywhere with a seat But the bus journey is lovely U get on the Bus 100 from Zoologischer Garten, direction Alexanderplatz. --its straightforward to know what direction is if u get one of the free berlin maps u will see the numbers of the buses written in redand on all the bus stops in Berlin each bus stop has a digital display advising what the bus numbers are and how long u would be waiting for them and as usual german style means if its 2 minutes its invariably 2 minutes if u go to http://www.berlin-tourist-information.de/english u wil get lists of theplaces u pass whilst on the Bus of course u can get a guided tour as well from your hotel but to be...

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

by Puckfair

Near again the U bahn Zoolischer GartenThis in itself is a beautiful and serene relic to Germanys pastTo be honest i dont know what i expected but alot of Berlin itself is so sanitised that if u were not aware of germanys history there would be no way u would know that Wars ravaged the cities architecture when u go in here there is just the main area available to walk around and it is free to go in there , there is photographic exhibition along the walls explaining the background history and there is also a model of the church .At night time it is more amazing with the lights and is a good focal point There is little stands around the Site which holds nice little pressies from berlinNext to the church then is the newer church which is so peaceful and serence and the light it really is a stunning sight u have to go there to understand

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp

by Puckfair

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Berlin u can do tours organized by third party however u are better off doing it yourselfWe got The metro /u bahn from the city center from Zoolisher stationThen got bus from Its free in the camp/But u would pay for the Audio guide which gives a clear information on each of the areas/in your preferred languageI Think we should all visit places like this - just to remember the poor people who suffered at hitlers tyrannyTake S-Bahn N°1 or the regional train bound for Rostock (one leaves from Zoologischer Garten, platform 3, at 10:30am) to Oranienburg. From Oranienburg’s station, you can catch bus N°804 to the camp (Gedenkstätte stop), or walk for About 25-35 minutes again it can take longerOranienburg Itself is small enough , yet a Macdonalds is planted in the middle of the town

Pfaueninsel

by Ewa208

If you are anywhere near Pfaueninsel, or the island of the peacocks, do visit it. It's one of my favorite ways of spending the sunny mornings, just strolling and having a coffee at the cafe of the dock. The ticket will cost you only 2 euros and you can stay as long as you like. There are some medieval towers, well preserved and a zoo in the middle of the island. I found the rose garden adorable and that blue house absolutely beautiful. One of the most pintoresque places I've ever visited.
