Safety

by Leipzig

I've been asked and also read in the forum the question: "Is Germany a safe place?".Yes, Germany is a relatively safe country! To be honest, there are areas in every city that you should avoid (in Germany as well as in every country in the world). A country without crime has yet to be discovered. It is not true that in East Germany are living Neo-Nazis only. Do I look like a Neo-Nazi? An East-German town is as safe as a West-German.However, in an emergency you can call the Police from any telephone booth by dialling 110. You do not need money for doing that!

Geraniums in the window

by DanielF

As soon as the weather gets milder, geraniums are considered a must for creating a cozy atmosphere in the German cities. Germans have a very stron civic sense and they will generally pay attention when watering their window plants, but a bit of care when walking on the street may save you from an unexpected shower.

Bald Boys...

by coceng

I was warned by some friends on skinheads in Berlin. Well, they had their places but I didn't go to their places. They hated Asians & Blacks I was told. How true, I don't know. I have to go to Berlin again to confront them, maybe. One sight that I want to share is at one of the metro station, I saw this skinhead, with his girlfriend maybe & their dog, big dog but looked tame; sitting on the floor. On their back were their equipments : guitar, backpacks, dog foods (they loved their dog) & some debris. They were beggars looking for some money maybe to move to another spot or destination in their own 'world travellings'. Sometimes, I want to join them. Maybe they see something that we don't ? Maybe they don't have to work for the rest of their life & settle down in somebody's house ? Maybe they got married & set up a business (God knows what ) & be a millionaire ? Maybe.Did I give them any...

Rain Rain Go Away...

by coceng

Raining, drizzling. That's what happened when I was in Berlin. 4 days in Berlin, it rained for 3 days. Thank God during the day only.I kept on doing my walks around Berlin. Felt good walking in rain in Berlin. Not too soaky. At night it was not raining I was still very much soaky anyway. So the unpredictable weather. Annoying to some people but don't let that stop you from what you want to do. Do other things instead. In Berlin, obviously it's a lot you could do indoors. The photo, I was walking in the park, took some photos but some of them had raindrops also captured by me into my photos !

Love 4 Sale...

by coceng

Well, love 4 sale. What do you expect ? can you keep the love ?I heard some girls & gay guys (why do straight guys always get away with this ?) would trade themself if you are willing to 'keep' them.Like Amsterdam & Copenhagen, Berlin has many of these people.Maybe they arrive here illegally, don't want to go back to their countries (mostly third world countries that many of us love to go ! but we couldn't find them there...) & sex is the only thing that they could offer.I was walking in Berlin & saw this Latino guy in his 20's, good looking (to anyone's standard) & holding his hand was this white walking beard thing. It looked that everything would fall off the old thing any second. The Latino guy was smiling to everybody & the old thingy was walking proudly. Holding on both hands of the Latino guys were full of Prada, Levi's, Raymond Weils etc etc etc paper bags, probably would be sent...

Beer drinkers

by mariquita

Germans are famous for the amount of beer they drink and the nasty way they go when they are drunk. Curiously, this happens more often when they are vacationing on Mallorca or in Cancún. In their own country they behave.

Slippery roads + high speeds can = disaster

by 850prc

If you are making a self-drive trip in Germany during shoulder and low season dates, DO remember that much of the country will have sub-zero nightly temperatures. This will, of course, lead to road icing. While many world wide are certainly used to driving on icy roads, not as many have experience in motoring at 160 km/hour or higher ON such an icy road.Keep safe and slow down.

Taking your Dogs to Germany

by Weissdorn

Because so many irresponsible owners have not trained their dogs, or have trained certain kinds of dogs to attack people, Germany has passed laws restricting the import of certain breeds of so-called dangerous dogs. Basically these are the following breeds of dogs:Bull TerriersPitbull TerriersStatfordshire TerriersMutts with at least 50% of one of the above breeds, and dogs that closely resemble these breeds. It is illegal to import the dogs for sale or for breeding purposes in Germany. If you already own one of these dogs, you can bring it with you under the following conditions. You must "declare" your dog in customs. You must have certification proving you are the owner of the dog.You may bring up to 3 dogs with you. You must have certification that the dog was vaccinated at least 30 days but not less than 10 days against rabies before you enter Germany. You must have a leash and an...

Jagermeister

Your German friends will offer you and try to convince you that Underberg or Jagermeister are good drinks. I total disagree to that concept and think that if you don’t have terrible flue or sick, its better to avoid those drinks.
