The Ship: Down by the Harbour

by bugalugs

There are a few restaurants to choose from by the harbour, we chose the Ship.Lovely friendly staff and a lovely view of the boats bobbing in the water about 10 feet away from where you are sitting, watching the sun going down. My husband had Steak and Kidney Pie, chips, peas and gravy he likes to be adventerous with his eating habits when he is away hahahaha. That cost £5.95 and he said it was great!I had a Chicken Zinger Burger, with salad and chips, it was really nice. That was £5.50The service was very good.

The Piccadilly: Not a substantial meal!!

by bugalugs

We stopped here for a late lunch. Quite a bit out door seating area, with parasols to shade you from the sun. We both had Spanish Omlette with salad, it cost £5.50 each however it wasnt very big, came with a tiny bit of salad on the plate and that was it. I thought compared to some places it was expensive for what it was.Burgers were from £4.00Steaks were from £8.00

Tapas on the beach

by gib157

One thing we always do when we go to Gib is eat Tapas on eaither Catalan Bay or Eastern beach, or maybe the Marina. The food is great and with the waves crashing on the beach in late afternoon it all adds up to a great experience. Calemari, John Dorry, Gambas Pil-Pil, swordfish

Roy's Fish & Chips

by barryg23

There are more places selling fish & chips in Gibraltar than in your average English town. We didn't want to spend too much time at lunch so we got a take away from Roy's and ate near the Southport Gate. It was quite expensive too and the quality wasn't high. Just like Britain after all....

Cannon Bar: Cheap Fish and Chips in a 'British Pub'

by kit_mc

This place is basically a little bit of the UK. It really could just be a provincial pub in England. You can listen to the locals complain about the state of the world. Friendly staff. Not 5* cuisine but if you wanted that you wouldn't have gone to a pub now would you? Decent fish and chips though, not too expensive at £5.25 a meal. A pint of lager, traditionally weak as in England was £2.20. This was pretty much all the food they had on the day we went but it filled the gap!

Cannon Bar: Friendly staff

by bugalugs

Quite a small place tucked into a corner but very nice and friendly staff. We both had burgers, salad and french fries, and it was really nice and a very generous helping, washed down by a couple of glasses of wine, well you have to be sociable :-)

Star Bar: Miss the fish!

by bugalugs

It was pouring down and we dashed into this little pub down a side street that says it is the oldest bar in Gibraltar.Quite a small bar, perhaps about 10 tables. TV and a couple of slot machines. We both had fish and chips as they advertised the fish was fresh. It probably was but I didnt like it at all. It was in batter which was fine but it had not been skinned and I hate fish with the skin still on. It also tasted of the sea!!!!! so salty not to my taste at all.

Overlooking the Marina: A bit classier

by bugalugs

By the Marina you will find some lovely restaurants, probably a bit more expensive than along Main Street area. Lovely views of the marina and the boats and watching the sun going down. Seating inside and also outside with awnings over the outside areas. We didnt actually eat at any of them as the night we wondered along here we had already eaten. But on our next visit we certainly will.

Little Rock Cafe: Good for people watching

by Helen196

I know it's really touristy but we ate at this restaurant on Casemates Square as by the time we'd walked from our hotel in La Linea we were starving so we just stopped here and ate.Service was a little slow at first but it was lunchtime so it's to be expected I suppose.I had a chicken ceaser salad which was HUGE but very tasty. Chris had some kind of chicken wrap with potato wedges which was tasty but a bit messy and the chicken and sauce dribbled out of the wrap.If you do eat here, I suggest you eat inside as the flies and pigeons are a menace, plus the inside is much nicer anyway even if you don't get to people watch.

Bar Finlandia: Proper tapas!!

by Helen196

We couldn't get food at the hotel until quite late as they had a large party dining there, so we decided to walk into the centre of La Linea and get a snack. We stumbled across Bar Finlandia not far from the hotel and decided to try some tapas. The spoke very little English and we had really good fun trying to speak Spanish. We tried the Chrorizo con Patas which was Chrizo sausage with potato wedges, and we also tried some cured ham and cream on a kind of French toast. It was all very rough and ready with bright strip lights and no regard for food hygiene (a dog ran through the kitchen at one point) but it all added to the character of the place.
