Casements Square by bugalugs We decided to buy our (then16 year old son) a present. Grief what to buy though......we saw this sports shop and went in for a look around, saw a lovely cardigan type top which was Nike and priced at £72.90!!!!!!! Well after my husband had picked me up off the floor we decided to buy it for him after the 'manager' had told us that it was 'exclusive' and in Marbella were being sold for over £110!!!!!!! I tried to barter with him on price however he wouldnt budge grrrrrr, but in the end my powers of persuasion must have had some effect as he gave us a football! We ended up buying it and would you believe it, yes our son really liked it but has worn it only once as he says it itches!!!!!!!!! Forgetting the presents in future! by bugalugs As we all buy postcards there is nothing worse, well I dont think to buy them in a gift shop and then find they dont sell stamps! However I did manage to find one tiny shop in a side street where they sold stamps. Then its a case of finding a post office. The Post Office is on Main Street. Opening hours vary from winter and summer Approx hours are Winter Mon-fri 9.-4.30 Saturday 10-1pm Summer Mon-fri 9.2.15pm Saturday 10-1pm
Postcards are 30p for Europe and 40p outside Europe. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Main StreetDirections: From Casemates Square, up Main Street and its on the right hand side

Gibraltar's public market is a traditional indoor market with all sorts of fish, fruits, vegetables and other goodies on offer. It is a nice place for people watching. The official inauguration of the market took place on the 1st October 1929. An old clock tower can be found on the opposite side of the market. It used to belong to the old public market. Directions: The public market is located at the Fish Market Lane; just behind Casemates Square. If you leave Casemates Square through the Casmates Gates you will find the public market on your left. Gibraltar's Main Street with its adjoining side streets is the area to go if you want to get rid of your money. Many items are tax reduced or even tax free in Gibraltar and therefore you will find plenty of shops selling jewellery, alcohol, perfumes or electronic goods. Directions: The Main Street runs almost the whole length of the town from the Casemates Square in the north to the Southport Gates in the South. More than half of the street is pedestrianised. Christmas lights on Main Street by bugalugs Besides being cigarettes which are a lot cheaper here (about £9 per 200 carton as opposed to about £45 a 200 carton in the UK), as are spirits, there are also lots of electrical shops, camera/photographic shops, perfume shops and also shops selling crystal and porcelain. All are duty free and as there are quite a few of these shops they must be doing well or else there wouldnt be as many. There is also a Marks and Spencer a Safewy store which is down near the harbour. As we were there in late November all the fairy lights were on ready for Christmas. Not all shops are open on a Sunday. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by bugalugs If you want to buy something e.g. food to make a packed lunch instead of paying for food out, there is a Safeway supermarket down near the Marina and on Main Street a small Tesco express. I popped in there to buy yogurts, fruit juice and the odd bottle of wine :-) Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Main Street

'A pleasant way to shop' by sugarpuff For shopping purposes, the recently pedestrianised and beautiful Main Street is the place to visit. There you will find a variety of shops sellings all sorts of goods, VAT free!!!! You will find electrical/audio-visual equipment, tobacco products, wines and spirits, jewellery, watches , perfumes, porcelain figures , sunglasses, books ,confectioneries, souvenirs, clothes, all at very competitive prices.
For a well-known brand of Vodka for example, you need only pay around four pounds. For a packet of 200 cigarettes, be prepared to pay around eight pounds. Perfume prices start at around eight pounds and rise from there. Audio-visual equipment is well priced, but the shops are owned by two families so you wont be able to bargain a great deal from shop to shop as the prices are all generally the same. But you do get discount for paying with cash. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Main Street, from Casemates Square up to the other end near the Cable Car entrance.

Gibraltar is a British Colony. As such it qualifies for tax-free status, which means any shopping there is duty-free. Therefore ectronic type goods can be significantly cheaper than elsewhere in Europe. As usual though, buyer beware. Check your local prices first, and make sure you are buying the same item with the same extras coming with it!
Electrical Goods such as cameras, mp3 players, memory cards et al are all worth investigating! Leave a Comment Theme: Computers and Electronics

Gibraltar High Street - Shoppers Paradise by Beach_dog As you walk into Gibraltar's main street you will immediately notice the numerous shops selling tax free goods, it seems that Gibraltar town center just thrives on its retail outlets. Its not surprising when you see the prices, and with so many daytrippers coming across the border its tax free status is well used by the visitors. Just be careful what you buy, as searches are not infrequent at the Spanish border, exceeding your allowances can result in having to pay tax or confiscation of the goods. .
