duty free and anything else

by africaking

If there is any shopping to be done in Gibraltar, the main place for that is going to be Main Street a street that is lined with shops and bars, there are a lot of duty free shops and electrical shops, also clothes shops are a plenty, prices pretty mush equal British prices except for the duty free, such as perfume cigs and alcohol. Cigs, and alcohol is a big bonus for shopping in Gibraltar as well as selling British products that you don't get to see other than in the U.K. Depending on what you want to buy, set your budget, some items are a little pricey such as electrical and some foods.

Glass Blowing

by keeweechic

Everything is made on the premises and you can watch the craftsmen skilfully creating their pieces from the diesel fuelled furnaces which heat to 1000 degrees C. The glass blowing area is just opposite the showroom and there is an exhibition area about the history of glass and its uses.

Royal Seal

by keeweechic

The company started in 1994 and brought in accomplished glassmakers from the UK and from their crafts they started to supply upmarket retailers back in the United Kingdom. They now create pieces for worldwide corporate clients such as Rolls Royce, Royal Bank of Scotland as well as the Queen who commissioned pieces for the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Gibraltar Crystal

This is a beautiful shop well worth a visit. They sell some amazing handmade glasses, tableware, vases, decanters to name but a few of the items for sale. The unique one of a kind pieces are simply stunning in their colour and designs. You can even design your own wine glass and have it engraved.

Marks & Spencer

by keeweechic

Right on Main Street is a small Marks & Spencers store. You will also find many other British well known names here on the main thoroughfare. The store is not huge but big enough. Still a little expensive if you are converting from lower currencies.

Main Street: Main Street

by GibJoe

Main Street or Calle Real as it is known in Spanish is the main shopping area in Gibraltar. You will find electronics, perfumes, wines, spirits etc.. You also can find UK shops such as Marks & Spencer, BHS, Mothercare and Dorothy Perkins. The shops normally open at 1000hrs and close at 1900hrs on weekdays. On saturdays opening hours are from 1000hrs to 1300hrs. Some shops do open other hours including Sundays, but the vast majority are closed on Sundays.

What to pay in, Euros or Pound Sterling??: What to pay in, Euros or Pound Sterling??

by GibJoe

The official currency in Gibraltar is the Pound Sterling, but Euros are accepted widely except Government offices. All the prices in shops are in pound sterling and the shop will charge you a higher rate than the bank. Gibraltar is within the UK banking system so it might be a good idea to pay with your debit/credit card. Natwest, Barclays, and The Royal Bank of Scotland have ATMs, but the withdrawal will be in pounds. Taxis, buses and tourist sites accept Euros but you will pay a slightly higher price.Gibraltar also issues its own notes in Pound Sterling. They cannot be used in the UK.

Main Street

by HORSCHECK

Gibraltar's Main Street with its adjoining side streets is the area to go if you want to get rid of your money. Many items are tax reduced or even tax free in Gibraltar and therefore you will find plenty of shops selling jewellery, alcohol, perfumes or electronic goods.Directions: The Main Street runs almost the whole length of the town from the Casemates Square in the north to the Southport Gates in the South. More than half of the street is pedestrianised.

Public market

by HORSCHECK

Gibraltar's public market is a traditional indoor market with all sorts of fish, fruits, vegetables and other goodies on offer. It is a nice place for people watching. The official inauguration of the market took place on the 1st October 1929. An old clock tower can be found on the opposite side of the market. It used to belong to the old public market.Directions: The public market is located at the Fish Market Lane; just behind Casemates Square. If you leave Casemates Square through the Casmates Gates you will find the public market on your left.

by bugalugs

We were looking for a present for our son's girlfriend and went into the Silver Shop. The range of things for sale was quite extensive. We bought a beautiful cross and chain really delicate and pretty, she thought so to when we gave it to her,Prices are wide ranging, but I am sure there is something to suit every pocket. Well worth a visit so many lovely things for sale that you will be spoilt for choice.
