travelling to morocco

Gibraltar is a good choice of airport, not just to see Gibraltar, but to access north africa if flights to the northern morocco airports such as Tangier, Casablanca, Fez are expensive. Its only 45 minutes by bus from the bus station just across the border from Gibraltar - actually only about 10 minutes from the Gibraltar airport - of La Linea. Its only 1.60 euro to Algeciras where the ferries depart for Tangier or Ceuta. The bus goes only to the main bus station at Algeciras though, so there is still a 5-10 minute walk down to the ferry terminal. Coming back is handier though - if you come back from Tangier via the faster ferry to Tarifa a bus always meets the arriving ferry at Tarifa and you can get off either at Algeciras ferry terminal (to walk to the bus that leave on the main road near there to Malaga or Marbella etc) or stay on the bus and it takes you right to the main bus station...

Taxi to Algeciras for Spain or ferries to Morocco

by angiebabe

Just across the border from Gibraltar, which is out the front exit door and turn right and then 2-3 minutes walk, is La Linea taxi rank. Especially if theres more than one of you, but i have done it several times travelling solo, its good value to maximise your time and go back taxi to Algeciras. The bus is oly 1.60 euro and takes only 45 minutes, but then a 10 minute walk each end, but the taxi will get you there in about 30 minutes and right from the border and right to the terminal door for only 25 euro.Or if to as i did on my last visit, i was in a rush to get to the Avis rental car office at Algeciras before it closed! Its good too if coming back you are running late as i often have and had to rely on taxis to get to planes in time!

Travel from Gibraltar to the Algarve, Portugal

by cubsur

I am assuming you will not have a car.First you have to get from Gibraltar across the border to La Linea in Spain. You have to walk I believe. From La Linea there are buses to Seville and from Seville there are buses to Faro and the rest of the Algarve.Bus times La Linea to Seville can be found athttp://www.tgcomes.es/horarios_33.htmthere may be other companies operating along that route. That journey is at least 4 hours and costs €20.20.There are two bus companies operating between Seville and the Algarve. For convenience I have the timetables on my website at www.algarvebus.info/001.htmThat leg of the journey will take around 3 hours to Faro, obviously longer if you go on to Albufeira or the rest of the Algarve. That's the only way. There are no trains and no planes.

getting there... by bus or by plane

I got to Gibraltar by bus from Malaga, which was fast and cheap; this bus also stop at Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella. There are also buses from Granada but you may have to change at Malaga. Buses leave from Malaga at 7.00, 10.15, 14.00, 17.15 Buses leave Gibraltar at 7.15, 10.30, 14.15, 17.45Note that buses do not go into Gibraltar but stop at the Spanish border town La Linea (de la Comception). The Gibraltar border is 5 minutes walk away.If you decide to fly, there are direct flights, from the UK. The iarlines serving this airport are British Airways, Monarch and Easyjet. There are also runour that a new airline, FlyGibraltar, will connects the territory with the UK soon (2008).

Rent a bike

by bugalugs

A great way to get around Gibraltar and see the sites or even just to go into Spain is by motorcycle. Lots of motorcycles in Gibraltar and also easier for parking. Also when queuing to cross the border for Gibraltar into Spain or vice versa the scooters are always at the front! Making queuing time much less if the barrier is down for a plane landing.A company offering this is Rent a Bike situated at 36b Waterport Ciricle, Sheppards Marina

What is best?

If you are in Gibraltar and feel a little lost, don't panick (don't mention anything either, the place is only 3 sq. miles) All you have to do is head towards the town, you can get a Taxi anywhere you want in Gibraltar(note:Taxis do not enter Spain) You will pay the same price as you would in the UK but for three times LESS the distance, not the cheapest way, but the easiest.Other transport are buses and hire bikes, buses run on a schedule and usually wait at Casemates Square, they are very cheap and sometimes quick. Hire bikes are located next to the BP garage opposite Casemates square next to a roundabout.

A large portion of Gibraltar is reserved for pedestrian travel, no cars. So be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. It is very nice to not have to worry about traffic.
