ATHENS IN GREECE : It's a...

by Nice_Girl

ATHENS IN GREECE : It's a town, with cars, pollution and noise. Because of its geographical situation and the establishment of half of the greek industry at Pireus, pollution is very high (the nefos, cloud of pollution from Pireus, stay here all year long...). Then, in summer, with heat, it's nearly unbearable. However, we can stay here some days to see antics monuments like Acropolis, and visit museums (like the national archaeological museum), the district of Plaka, the national garden (an indispensable haven of greenery), the Lycabet Mount...

Greece and its islands has...

by Nice_Girl

Greece and its islands has many historical and archaeological sites. Minoan civilisation, Ionian one, Doric one, Graeco-Roman one, Venitian invasion, Turkish occupation... shaped its landscape, and let many ruins. KNOSSOS IN CRETE : According to the legend, Cnossos was the palace of the king Minos. In reality (historically), it's a palace of bronze age (2600-1100 BC), that we called 'minoan age' too. After some excavations at the end of XIXth century, the palace was nearly fully excavated during the first part of XXth century by Sir Arthur Evans, who reconstructed some buildings. If some scientists doubt some of its reconstructions, they all recognize he brought important knowledges about the minoan civilisation.

Biggest island of Greece,...

by Nice_Girl

Biggest island of Greece, CRETE is the most diversified too : cities without a lot of charm (Iraklion), cities with a lot of charm (Hania, Rethymno), small lost villages (sometimes deserted), archaeological ant ancient sites (Knossos, Kato Zakros...), very touristics seaside resorts (Hersonissos, Malia...), contrasted landscapes (sea, mountains), Venitian fortresses, Turkish minarets... If you go to Greece only once, go to Crete. Tourism is certainly very developed (very very developed in summer), but there's not a long way to do to be alone.I love this island...

GREEK FOOD is probably one of...

by Nice_Girl

GREEK FOOD is probably one of the best in the world. Rich and simple, olive oil and mixed herbs enhance this mediterranean food. Feta (ewe's cheese) is used in many recipes. A famous one is 'tiropita', a sort of ewe's cheese pie. Cheese pie are consumed by greek people for breakfast. Apple pie with cinnamon and sugar are very tasty and also eaten by greek people for breakfast. These pies are sold in 'bakery' with others specialties like spinach pie and white bread with grains. During Easter time, special breads and cookies are cooked to be offered with tinted eggs in red. Greece has a generous tradition for Easter, entire lambs are cooked to be shared with every people of the village.

Rent a bike and drive around the islands. Any island will do. The blue ocean and the blue sky. It is so blue that will make me cry.Feta cheese!! I have Greek salad even for breakfast which loaded with feta cheese and olive. May be that's why it is so good.

Either the booze cruises, or the sky surfer - wicked!! My best memory is from my 21st birthday in Falaraki, swinging high in the sky on the sky surfer - twice!! Basically a sleeping bag on a string, you get hoisted into the air, and then dropped about 200 feet, swinging just inches from the ground. Best experiance, without a doubt.

by RuthLuvsPaul

visit the Plaka. This is an older area of Athens & is filled with little cobbled streets that you think of when someone mentions Greece. It is a nice retreat from the large, grey city centre of Athens. The restaurants are fabulous & although most of the souvenir stores start to look the same after a while, you can find some great purchases! Al fresco lobster dinner in the Plaka for 12,500 drachma! It took 1&1/2 hours to eat & was delicious!
