Accommodation and Best Time for the Ionians

by nickandchris

The Ionian islands of Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos andLefkas are all beautiful islands, with Zakynthos being the most touristy and probably Ithaca the least. They are in the west and are more northerly than most tourist destinations in Geece, therefore expect more rain!!!I would suggest to go in May, early season, when the islands are beautifully green from the winter's rain, wild flowers grow in abundance and accommodaton is cheaper. The sea is warm enough to swim in and air temps will be around 19 - 26 c. For those who enjoy camping you will find camp sites on Lefkas and Kefalonia, the other two I'm not sure but I'm sure there will be campsites. I would expect to pay around 30 - 40 euros a night for a studio/ apartment with your own kitchen. If you only want a room with no facilities, it will be less.Camp sites I find expensive compared with rooms, often have limited facilities and can...

Mythologie

by volopolo

Athens has been (mythologie) at war with Creta. Although the war was over, Minos (king of Creta), ruled the seas and Athens had to play an awful tribute as a condition for peace. Minos saught revenge for the death of his son and demamded that every nine years the Athenians send him fourteen of their children - 7 girls and 7 boys. Once in Creta, the young and woman were send into the maze like labyrinth to face the deatdly Minotaur who was half man, half bull.

Flying...

by nickandchris

Flying is great, especially in daylight when you can see the magnificent scenery. Flying to Greece we have to fly over the Alps which look magnificent from above, in the crisp blue sky and the snow looking pristine. I also love coming in to land in Greece, reducing height as we pass various islands, trying to recognise landmarks and then holding your breath as we fly in low over the sea and the fishing boats, positive we can't fail to miss hitting one!!! Skiathos is a great airport for that. This year, 2007, we were actually able to see the superb bridge connecting Rio and Andirio from our plane seats. What a feat of engineering that is!
