Great white sandy beaches with crystal cool water

by stavlois

Riding with car in the Ionian Islands, searching for the NEXT great white sandy beache ( with crystal cool water ) on the road signs and Map.Searching for a nice taverna, not far from a sandy beach, soon after finishing the dive.Find places where greek people go and always ask for menu, select traditional greek specialities and not just burger with fries.Try local cool white wine which is usually the best. Best Island, I VISITED. For green and sandy beaches is SKIATHOS BUT IT IS RATHER TOURISTIC.So better choose Lefkada.Lefkada has the beach with the most extravert beauty I ever came across in my life. Its called Engremmi (hills) and I visited this Sept 2007, which is excellent month, and tourist traffic is less.I will prepare a separate page for this nice beach.Best island I VISITED, FOR FISH is ALONISSOS + VOLOS CITY FOR SHELLFISH AND OUZO SHOPS.Best ISLAND I VISITED, FOR FISH, HISTORY...

Holidays

I went to Greece when I had loads of money so I had no hesitation to ask the reception at the Hotel where I stayed, to name an amount of money they wanted in order for me not to talk about money ever again while I was there. Paid God knows how much but had the time of my life. Money doesn't buy everything but it does come in handy most of the time if you know how to best use it.The Greek islands are beautiful and full of life in Summer, but I'm sure as well they are so the rest of the year. Beaches, Ouzo, Discos.

3 reasons why that road pic is not from Greece

by andreasfmpro

In an apparent effort to badmouth my native Greece, someone started circulating the picture to the right on the internet.Well, to set the record straight, I am hereby providing undeniable proof this pic was NOT taken in Greece:3 reasons why that road pic is not from Greece:1) Greek country roads do not have a white stripe in the middle of the pavement, let alone the edges.2) You can see there is a ditch next to the road. Greek country roads do not have ditches. That's why they flood with the first few drops of rain. But the dead giveaway this pic is not from a road in Greece is:.......3) There is no GARBAGE in the ditch or on the road!:D

Archaeological sites saved, but need restoration.

by sayedaburas

The winged statue of victory in the ancient village of Olympia is shrouded by smoke from fierce fires in Greece that have claimed 63 lives. A huge effort by firefighters has kept the 2800-year-old site – the holiest in ancient Greece and the venue for the ancient Olympic games – safe. Picture: AP

'wildfires not by chance'

by sayedaburas

Is it possible? Can one imagine??? Oh my God ! Ancestors built great civilisations, that such insane creatures destroy them, in cold blood????!!!!!!!! Killing more than 63 innocents so far...?????!!!!!! Devastating a great portion of botanical resources......Kyrie Elaison! "Have you asked yourselves how circumstantial all this is. With this indication the government is not implying anything, but only what every Greek wonders," Greek Minister of State Mr. Theodoros Roussopoulos said.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT GREECE

by LoriPori

CURRENCYThe Currency used in Greece is the Euro. Credit cards and traveller's cheques in U.S. dollars are widely accepted. ATM's are widely available and that is mainly what we used. Check with your bank for information on ATM services in other countries - before you leave home. Your card isn't good to you if it doesn't work. Your bank will advise you if you need a new PIN number for overseas access to your account. ATM's should be used during business hours inside a bank or large commercial building.ELECTRICITY220 volts, 50 ACSome islands are 110 voltsA converter and a plug adaptor are requiredCLIMATEA Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. Tour groups in Greece

by mollynsteve

We returned from a recent tour of Greece(late April to mid May) with the first part a bus tour of mainland Greece with Globus, a bit disappointing. Then followed an independent island-hopping tour arranged by ATB Holidays which was a great experience. My contact with them was by internet - after I chose the package we wanted (Santorini, Naxos, Mykonos) and indicated what level of hotel (moderate) they did all the rest, meeting us at our hotel at the end of the Globus tour, taking us to the correct ferry(all ferries high speed catamaran, got to Santorini with 2 stops in between in a little over 4 hours) where we were met and taken to our hotel(Rimida Villas in Oia, a quieter town than Fira on Santorini; Nazos Beach Hotel in Naxos Town, and Mykonos Palace 4 km. out of Mykonos town) with the same efficient transfers on all islands, and finally from Piraeus to the Athens airport for our...

I really enjoyed Greek islands, so beatiful, unspoiled with so friendy people. We took a cruise on Perla. Although the ship is small and old, the food was the best if you compare with NCL, Celebrity and Princess, the cruises I took earlier The color of the mediterenian waters. It is so blue and beatiful
