Favorite thing: If you will climb Matala rock at the back of the village u will see the whole area from a bird's view, really unique experience. There are signs of history even here on the top, probably here was the tower or so ...

Favorite thing: By bus u can easily reach the second most important Minoian palace on Crete. Ruler was brother of Knossos king and there are similar or even the same structure of place such as in Knossos. Take bus from Matala, it§s just around 10-15 minutes and costs 1,50 Euro.

Favorite thing: As the rock itself is very easy to curve in, it was the best choice for people in the past to settle there. On the other side they used this holes in the rock as a buried place. Matala itself is full of such caves and they are in perfect condition, just time to time t here is some damaged. For those who like to explore such places they are empty :) just to let u know...

Favorite thing: If you like bird's view then you need to climb up some hills right behind Matala. The best is this one because there is probably strategic place. When u look down u see whole Matala with its bay and beach, on the right can be seen other beach called Komos and nearby villages such as Kalamaki, Kalimari etc. and on the other side there is just sillouettes of nearby places surrounded by the Libyan sea. If you want to climb these hills, take good shoes and a water. :) You will need it... it isn't dangerous, everywhere can be found paths.

Favorite thing: Matala beach is relatively small but right near the village. So those who are lazy potatoes should stay here :) The beach got the blue flag what means it is one of the best but honestly, sometimes it is not that clean as you should expect. But the water is crystal clear... In the evening there is a good movie everyday in the same time, just sit down and watch :) THE SUNSET
