The mediaeval castle of Molyvos, which crowns the hill of Mithymna and dominates the entire surrounding landscape, dates from the byzantine era. Francisco Gateluzo remodeled it in 1373. This castle is the second largest on Lesvos in terms of land area and grandeur but well preserved.

A beautiful and popular location.
We got a table at one of the many bar/restaurants that front the harbour. With a great location like this you pay for it - we just had drinks.

Address: Molyvos Harbour
It seemed a long way up to the castle in the heat of the day, but there are great views from the top that make it all worth while.

The small harbour of Mithymna is very picturesque. Having an ouzo on the dock in the afternoon is a must !

Historic town on Lesvos Island

A lovely town to visit or stay at. We were staying at Petra, the neighbouring town, and caught the bus over the hill to Mithimna (Molyvos in English).
