If you happen to be in Greece during the carnival period (just before Lent begins) try to visit a town which has traditional carnival festivities, and doesn't try to reproduce the parades that take place in Rio de Janeiro! Naoussa is one of them, with the traditional Genitsaroi kai Mpoules, a custom that derives from the ottoman ocupation era. Unfortunately I was only in town during the day, and didn't get to take part in the street parties, but just walking around the town was fun, as all the streets were decorated in good taste!
