Every where in Greece has plenty of nightlife but my number one spot is Malia in Crete. 150 bars down one street, if you want peace and quiet this is not the place to go, if you want to party come here and if you are looking for work you will get something here Anything goes!!!
It is the second disco on the Island and plays a Variety of music giving you a party atmosphere.It is a open air disco in full view of all the stars and stays open till very late.People head here after about twelve o'oclock after been in the square and is about a five minute walk from the square.
One of the things I enjoyed most about Greece was eating out in the evenings. People begin to come out at about 9 o'clock although this is still quite early. All members of the family are invited, from great granma to the littlest babe. Cafes and restaurants spill patrons across the pavement, with extra chairs and tables added where neccessary.The kids are allowed to run about the area and seemed to be under the general watch of all adults present. Except for the odd occasion (which was always well-handled by the adults) these kids were superbly well-behaved. This was a real eye-opener for me coming from the UK where kids are only allowed in some bars/pubs if accompanied by an adult and even then only until 8 o'clock in the evening (6 pm in some cases).Woe betide if you let your kids escape the table in a British restaurant!! Public life is well developed as people here do not like to be alone or stay at home. Join some Greeks , preferably over 30 and away from big cities (chances are better then to meet someone with less western European influences), to get an idea of how we entertain ourselves! The traditional ways are slowly disappearing, or rather changing- engulfing the variety of inported habits and lifestyles. Greek popular culture, however, is a unique blend of Balkan, western European & MiddleEastern rituals that do not fade away so easily!
Dancing is one of the great Greek traditions. Like all other peoples, Greeks find dancing to be much fun and an opportunity for expression. The circle dance has been danced in Greece since ancient times.
Our favourite places to eat are in the Plaka area under the acropolis where you can find restaurants with roof terraces overlooking the city. We usually go later in the evening when most of the regular tourists are all tucked away in their hotel rooms. The Greeks tend to eat later, and there's often a band playing greek tunes and people getting up to dance between their courses. Most of these places are inexpensive, we never manage to find the same place twice as there are too many windy little streets to explore!
While in Paros this was the bar that I ended up visiting as it has the best music and been the end of Auguest was the only bar with a lot of life.This bar is where all the greek people come to and got to know all the locals who were so freindly, ended up having such a good time with them I will have to go back next year. You can dress how you like there is no dress code here which is really cool.
We had heard of the incredibly decadent Greek night life and wanted to experience it. However, travelling in the off season, we discovered that the majority of the decadence comes from the tourists, apparently, as we did not see or hear anything out of the ordinary in Athens, Mykonos, Paros, or Santorini. We were a little disappointed because it wasn't the night life we expected. However, quiet nights in Greece are quite nice, too - if you're looking for quiet and to take things nice and slow, travel late May, early June. This is just a couple of weeks before high season - everything is accessible (and not crowded), and it gives the people at the hotels a chance to brush up on their hospitality skills.
