A small dictionary that has the important key words. In the villages, people usually don't speak English so it's important to know some words. In addition,It's recommended to learn how to read Greek - the traffic signs are usually in Greek and so are the lables on the food products.

Take a bag big enough for you to bring plenty of local Greek pressies back - they have some beautiful lace work thats well worth a look at. Flip flops and dancing shoes!! Factor 20+ and some plenty of anti mozzie stuff - they are everywhere You will not have any difficulty finding batteries or films - you can get your photos developed at one of the two chemists on the island. apart from bikini, towel and a little black number for the night life - what more do you need?

Hmmm backbacking is a very common way to travel. But luggages are also acceptable!!! Comfortable casual clothes, comfortable shoes, sandals, SWIMMING SUIT, shorts, t-shirts, pareo, sunglasses, hat and a sweater (at night weather might become cool, especially in seaside places) are enough! At summertime wasps and mosquitos visit Greece too!!! But everything nessecary can be found in the greek drug stores or super markets. So don't worry if you forget something! Be sure that you didn't forget to take a big smile and good mood!!!But even if you forgot them... we (the greeks) can provide them for you!!!!!ENJOY!!!

It's hot there, and the weather is perfect, all the time. That is, if you go in June. Pack all your summer clothes, especially tank tops. Don't bother with a raincoat.Bring sandals for walking, and also rubber sandals for swimming so you don't stop on any sea urchins. That'd be bad. They're got most things...

Bring what you like to use from home. Personal care items such as cosmetics, cologne, good hair/skin products and the like, can be expensive or difficult to find, particularly on the Greek Islands. Then again, you won't need that kind of crap on the islands. Bring swim gear. Bring sunblock. Bring a healthy liver. Developing film is cheaper than in Canada (in the cities), but buying some is more expensive. BRING SUNBLOCK!! I can't emphasize this enough. The sun is unbelievably strong, especially if you don't see a lot of it in your own country. Apparently there is a hole in the ozone over Greece due to the Chernoble radiation accident.

Family Travel If you are going self-catering and flying overnight, make sure you have some water and a few biscuits for your arrival. It is not recommmended that you drink the tap water on Corfu, due to its high mineral content. So if you arrive very early in the morning, with no reception, you will need a drink. The shops will be closed until later in the morning.

Hiking Don't take a towel: take a big, thin cloth instead. Your backpack won't be so heavy. It turned out to be much more comfortable at the beach, too. And it dried much faster than a towel, thanks to the breeze and the heat.

Family Travel Take lots of film cause there are lots of wonderful sights to photograph. Also throw in an older or inexpensive 35mm camera and a roll of black and white film for some amazing shots of the ruins.

Wear loose trousers and long sleeved shirts in the evening, keeps you nice and cool and bite free. Mossy net, sprays and cream, lotions and potions vital to keep the buggers away from you in the evening. You can also buy antihistamines (Zirtek, Clarytin) at the local pharmacy at the fraction of UK prices. Great for hypochondriacs like yours sincerely.

Best: A very, very light tramper bag or backbag. In July, August you don't need shoes here because of the weather but at any time because of the bad roads and the litter (glass, metal, oil) on it. If it does rain, you stillmay buy some clothes... it's not that expensive. 1. Don't drive scooters.2. If you do, don't get hurt.3. If you do, pray; there are few hospitals and very little people speaking English tocarry you to one (and if it's a nice litte island at the end of the world it might well bethe end of _your_ world). Bring films. You can buy them eventually but the are expensive. You may carry a tent with you, but if you don't mind there are always tents to rent(or even pavillions) - brave people try the beach (but it's windy, sandy, sticky andoften littered). Bring HAIR CONDITIONER!!! .. or your hair will look like straw after one week.Bring after sun balm for softer skin....
