Closing time's the best opportunity for good deals

One of the first things I noticed when walking Plaka's streets is that many merchants are selling the same souvenirs. You should not buy something the first time you see it, as the price could be lower down the street or around the corner. This was true with the "Hellas" hat I bought. ("Hellas" is the Greek word for "Greece" when not written in Greek language.)
I thought it would be really cool to have one of those "Hellas" hats, and the first one I saw cost 5 Euros. My instinct told me not to buy right away and later I saw the exact same hat selling for 4, 6, 7, and finally 3 Euros. The shop where I bought if for 3 Euros was primarily a store for camping equipment, but they had a rack of tourist hats outside. (It's located at an intersection near the Roman Agora.)

What to buy: "Hellas" hats and T-shirts
Tourist books on Greece written in different languages
Komboloi worry beads
Byzantine icon replicas
Ceramic tiles
Natural sponges
Ouzo
Gold jewelry
Leather belts and handbags

What to pay: 3 Euros is my favorite price. After looking through numerous shops and bargaining with many merchants, I found 3 to be the magic number for just about any cheap gift. My Greece picture book was 3 Euros, my Hellas hat was 3 Euros, and I even found a Greek god statue for 3 Euros without any Herculean effort at haggling!
