by tak_pap Patras, the capital of Achaia, is the country's third largest city. It is the main port for ships arriving from Italy and the Ionian islands. Boats leave Patra daily to a number of destinations. There are direct ferry services to the Italian ports of Bari, Brindisi, Ancona & Venecia (Port Authority: Tel: (0610)341002, 341024) Try these adresses, too: http://www.greekislands.gr/sff/ http://www.minoan.gr/ Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Tip: Get an international drivers licence. I only had my US licence and while they did rent me the car anyway, they said it would be a hassle if I got a ticket or accident without one... AVIS: 13 Kapsali (just a few blocks from ferry, phone: 30(610)275 547 I rented one for 3 days but picked up in Patras and dropped off in Athens so there was an extra us$65 charge. Total was about us$230 for 3 days incl. insurance, etc. Kind of expensive but the only way to get around this area since trains don't go most places. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by Christianne On living Patras by car you absolutely must go to Kalavrita.Otherwise, you can try the finicular from the village Diacofto. The landscape is getting more and more mountainous because it becomes the ascent to the mountain. It is recommended to chose the second possibility, the finicular which is clutching the rails with its 'teeth'.You'll admire the enourmes rocks and the trees hanging from the mountain. Kalavrita is the third one stop of the finicular. Leave a Comment Theme: Train
