  • THE CHURCH OF AGIOS GEORGIOS,BUILT IN 1619 IN THE BYZANTINE ORDER,TURNED INTO A MOSQUE BY THE TURKS,AND DURING THE SECOND VENETIAN PERIOD ,INTO A CATHOLIC CHURCH DECORATED WITH FRESCOES BY ITALIAN PAINTERS IN 1703 (AMONG OTHER THINGS ,ONE CAN SEE A COPY OF DA VINCI'S LAST SUPPER)

  • THE CHURCH OF AGIOS SPYRIDON(BUILT IN 1702) WHERE KAPODISTRIAS WAS MURDERED (THE BULLET HOLE ON THE OUTER WALL NEAR THE DOOR IS STILL VISIBLE)

    We went up the steps at sunset - all 999 steps!! (Don't worry you can also take a cab...) The fortress was closed, unfortunately. But that didn't stop us from having a wonderful view of the harbour. The rocks of the fortress were lit red with the sunset. It was quite beautiful.

    The Venetians built Paladimi in the 1700s. It changed hands many times since then.

    Open Tuesday thru Sunday 8:30 AM till 3 PM, entrance fee about EUR 2.

    Worth visiting for a unique complete armour of a Mycenae soldier and reconstructed fresques from Tiryns.

    Picturesque fortress built in 1473 by Venetians. At the beginning it constituted a gate for the Nafplio seaport and a guarding point for the whole Argolida Bay. Later the fortress served as city executioner's house (19th century) and a luxury hotel (early 20th century). At present you can only see it from the outside.

    There you can sit and enjoy a beautiful sea view, have a drink of frape or meet friends. Actually the promenade is one of the busiest places in Nafplio.
