The area of the Peloponnese near Nafplio is hot and somewhat desert-like, providing a good environment for plants such as the cactus I am posing next to in this shot... Don't expect to find that perfect "paradise" beach in this part of Greece... But it has many other pleasures for you to discover...

Here are some of the 999 steps leading up to the fortress... On a hot summer day in Greece, it is taxing enough just walking down all these stairs in the heat, so I wouldn't recommend walking up them... But as we were descending, we did see a couple masochists giving it a go...

Another view from Palamidi fortress with, in the distance, Bourdzi, a Venetian fortress, guardian of Nafplio port, and founded in 1473. From 1865 to 1920, it was the residence of Palamidi prison guards. Since 1930 it has been a hotel and restaurant, and is the scene of cultural happenings. Unfortunately, I have not been on this "floating" fortress.

A view of Nafplio from the Palamidi Fortress.
There are so many things to exclaim at here, with views of the city and the sea which will bring spontaneous ohhhhs and ahhhhs and smiles of contentment. The fortress holds many secrets waiting to be discovered. Its chambers, which until 1920 held prisoners and its ancient archways make you travel back in time.

ARGOS is a town north of Nafplio & it's here we were brought for a briefing on shopping for crafts in Greece. A very nice outlet & a charming presenter ;-) (Many Greek guys looks charming to me :-P). Well, I had a long journey ahead so wasn't in the mood to buy even though I found some nice dolls & ceramics here. A most pleasant shopping stop!

This is a vase. You like it? Price? From Euro 300 onwards. Now you know why I didn't lug one of them home! Not that I need a vase, I would never need one. Flowers belong in the gardens, not in a vase!

On the way to Argos, I managed to capture this "monastery" on memory. It looks like a monastery to me & a Greek Orthodox church. Let me find out more about Greek Orthodox before I write something about it here.

I saw some icecream from afar... hehe, guilty as charged. So, I follow my instinct & I found the store. Then, I remembered, oops, I was gaining weight fast! Very fast... on full course meal 3X a day. & with desserts every day for the past 1 week or so. Oh no, I've got to get out of here! But not until after I've taken a photo! Stay away from temptations! There are lots in Greece ;->

Let's face it, I've nothing against big ship, globalisation or even throng of tourists. But this ship at the harbor is an eyesore. It doesn't belong. Just not right!
Ok, so what is it doing on my page? ;-)
A sign of protest, perhaps? Intolerance? May be. Oh well, it'll stay for now.

My colleague was looking for a new apartment recently & he wanted a balcony overlooking the sea. Right, he was willing to fork out more money just for that balcony. So, I asked him. How long are you gonna spend each day sitting out there looking at the seaview, etc, etc... He looked at me with an incredulous expression like I'm an alien or something, lol...
Ok, what's the morale of the story? Trust me, I'm an expert on this. I've a balcony in my apartment. I was hardly out there in my 3 years of residence. I even have a coffee table out there... now lining with dust! We do not have the luxury of sitting out there & watching the world goes by. At the very least, I don't. The only window I need is the one supplied by Bill Gates!
I understand, many will disagree with this. But, look... I speak for the majority of Asians on this matter, I think. If you've a job, a full time job, you do not have the luxury of sitting on the balcony & day dreaming. You would undoubtedly want to very much, but you can't afford to.
So, I envy those Europeans... envy, envy, envy!

Q: I would like to take a ferry from Nafplio to Samothraki island. Could someone tell me some information on that :)

A: It's not possible if you're looking for a direct route. You will have to return to Athens/Piraeus to take a ferry to Samothraki, and there is no ferry between Nafplio...
