    The new Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, located some 25 to 30 Km outside Athens proper in an area known as Spata is the main portal to the city. Modelled to suit the needs of locals and tourists alike, the airport is extremely easy to navigate. One has to keep in mind the large number of daily flights to and from the islands (apart from the other domestic and international flights) to fully appreciate the said ease-of-use.

    Well served by a number of outlets, it is a place to explore in its own right, and maybe a place to bag a last-second souvenir for that someone you weren't sure you'd be getting something. Needless to say, we're looking at airport prices you see anywhere else in the world.

    As for being connected, it is also easy to get out of the airport - metro, tram, buses and taxis all serve the Venizelos, but I strongly suggest thinking twice about hailing a taxi. Compare the (possible) EUR 60 bill against the metro's EUR 6 (flat EUR 10 for two) or a bus's EUR 3. In both latter cases, the ticket is useable on other public transport systems for a period of time.

    We took the metro and were in Athens with 27 minutes (not more than 45 minutes from touch-down).

    It is situated 20 km to the East of Athens.

    Electric train to Douksis Plakentias or Ethniki Amina metro stations (line 3) every 15 min. 25 min in a way, 3€.
    Buses E94, E95, E96, E93, E97.
    Taxi about 20€, an hour in a way.

    Flights to Iraclio (1 hour, 42 times a week, 79€), Kerkyra/Corfu (50 min, 26 times a week, 93€), Lesvos (50 min, 29 times a week, 80€), Mycenos (45 min, 43 times a week, 79€), Rhodes (1 hour, 38 times a week, 92€), Santorini (50 min, 56 times a week, 83€).

    I arrived to Greece-Athens by Russian "Kras Air" B-737. It took me 3,5 hours. The plane wasn't full and I've got a very convinuent place by the illuminator. So I've got a possibility to take a film "From rainy Domodedovo to sunny Athens by air".

    The fastest way to travel to Athens is of course by plane. The airport is located about 20km from the city. The cheapest way to get to the city from the airport is by Airport bus. There are buses E94, E95 and E96 depending on what is their last stop within the city. The ticket is 2.90euros and it is valid for all means of transportation in the city (buses, trolleys and metro) within the next 24hours

    We flew from Venice to Athens with Alpie Eagles, a no frills air carrier. They may not serve dinner, but they have extremely nice stewardesses, who offered Red Bull caffine induced drinks, as well as coffee, tea, and a tiny, tiny package of cookies.

    The cabin interior was spotless, and the seats were covered in real leather, as opposed to the grimy cloth material found on most carriers.

    Cost was 29 euro one way.

    You board from a designated 'gate' like all flights, but instead of an airplane at the end of the corridor, you catch an air conditioned bus which takes you directly to the plane. Very easy. A one minute ride.

    Coming from Spain and 8 days in Ibiza, I was scared that I might not be able to read English, much less Greek. But, it turned out that the Athens airport is very simple. It is basically one big terminal, so you don't have to run all over th place looking for baggae, counters or anything; its all real close. All arrivals are located on the bottom floor, where luggage claim is, and all departures are on the second. To calm your nerves, everything is written in English, as well as Greek. To get to the city, its a 30 minute or more bus ride, or, I'm sure, a shorter taxi ride.

    Most travellers arrive in Greece by air, the cheapest and quickest was to get there. Greece has got 16 Internationak airports but only Athens receive all the major airline carriers from all over the World. So, If you r planning to come to Greece, you will most probably will arrive in Athens and it is the best place to start your trip to Greece.

    Olympic airways is the Greek National Airline. It has got the best air route network in Greece. The service of the airline is okay. Its not too bad and not too good. They have got large Boeings for International flights and small twin trotters or Fokker planes for going to Greek Islands.

    All the World's major airlines arrive in Athens first and then proceed further in Greece. Cornus Airline is the second best national Airline of Greece and its aircrafts are better than Olympic Airways. If you are coming to Athens then u can either take your own national carrier or Cornuy airline or Olympic airways for the best connection to Athens.
