When you want to fly to Athens with cheap prices, I suggest you to choose the Easyjet.
It is really cheep, by comparison with another companies.
My ticket from Tallinn (in Estonia) - Berlin - Athens and Athens - Berlin - Tallinn, it was cost with return only ~190 Eur.
Of course it is mean less the comforts.
EasyJet does not allocate seats, and you can choose where to sit when you board the aircraft.
EasyJet philosophy is that "there's no such thing as a free lunch" - so they don't offer one! They offer a great selection of hot, cold, and alcoholic drinks, snacks, and sandwiches at really competitive prices.

I arrived to Greece-Athens by Russian "Kras Air" B-737. It took me 3,5 hours. The plane wasn't full and I've got a very convinuent place by the illuminator. So I've got a possibility to take a film "From rainy Domodedovo to sunny Athens by air".

Some things to consider on a long flight, take a sweater in case it gets cold and don't dress to warm in case it gets hot. I take my shoes off and put on booties (socks). Your feet will swell up. Periodic massaging of the feet might help keep the swelling down. Most planes provide a pillow and blanket. I would double up the blanket and use it for extra cushion on the seat. I always pack some extra snacks for the trip such as beef jerky, nuts and chocolate chip cookies in my carry on. Remember not to bring the open food packages back - especially the beef jerky. Customs has a real problem with that. Anyway, just some suggestions for the long flight.

"Eleftherios Venizelos", the airport of Athens, is located about 30 km NE of it. The beginning of operation happened on March 2001 (5 years of construction). It deputized the old fashioned and small airport in Elliniko, which doesn't exist anymore.
The new airport of Athens, too modern and pleasant, has 157 check-in counters. The arrivals level is on the ground, the departures above it (for details about to/from "Eleftherios Venizelos", see the next tip).

The new Athens Airport (Eleftherios Venizelios) is located to the east of the metropolitan area.
If you don't want to get a taxi, there are other options too.
You may get a train to/from the airport, which is quick or you may get the airport bus. The airport bus is a very economical way to/from the airport and it also entitles you to use any metropolitan bus, train (metro) or tram for 24 hours after you purchase your ticket.
The buses go to central Athens, Pireaus port and also there are services to Rafina port.

We departed from Kuala Lumpur -> Doha -> Athens with Qatar Airways. The first sector, the plane was old and one of the TV screen was not running properly. From Doha to Athens, the plane was much better.

OK, I guess that my Transportation Tip is useful mainly for people from South América, but it can be good for people from Spain too.
I flew several times from Buenos Aires to Athens, but always with a transfer in someone airport of Europe, except when I flew with VASP ( a brazilian ariline that doesn't exists anymore) when my transfer was in San Pablo, Brazil.
Anyway, I flew with Iberia, Aerolineas Argentinas, VASP; Lufthansa, and KLM.
The shortest trip from Buenos Aires is the Iberia option. 11 hours from Buenos Aires to Madrid, an after 3 1/2 hours from Madrid to Athens with one stop in Barcelona.
When you take in account the transfer time in Madrid (around 3 hours) my trip lasts 17 1/2 hours.
Yap, too long, too tedious, tiresome.
But Greece well worth the sacrifice.
Data of Iberia below, it isn't the best service but it is the shorter from Argentina.

If you want to hop around the islands, the fastest way is by plane. For the most availability try out Olympic Airways. I can't say it was the cleanest, nicest, or best service I've ever had, but it will get you where you want to go the fastest. So if you want to get from point A to point B, fly the skies.
