Unfortunately it was not possible to take a picture in Koutouki cave which is located on the eastern slopes of Mt. Ymittos and is almost unknown for tourists coming to Athens. But this cave is wonderful and worth visit.
It was discovered accidentally in 1926. It is 510m above sea level on the eastern slopes of Mt. Imitos, 4 km. from the village of Paiania (Liopessi) in the Messogia district of Attica, to which it is connected by an asphalt road. The cave has an area of 3,800 m2 and consists of one main cavern with several partitions festooned with fine, multicolored groupings of stalactites, stalagmites and columns.
Artistically concealed artificial lighting in this cave is considered to be among some of the best in the world!

The museum is located in the same town as the Koutouki cave, in Paiania. It consists of a complex of buildings and courtyards. Its collections span a period of 4.000 years of greek history and art.
It has been donated to the greek state by the Vorres family. The museum, one of my favorite, is open for visitors (for pupils between Monday-Friday) at the weekends.

This cave is 4 km from the town of Paiania, which is situated close to the airport of Athens. Koutouki cave, on the eastern slope of Hymettous mountain, was discovered accidentally in 1926 and with an area of about 4.000 square metres is one of the best of Greece.
Koutouki cave is a vertical one. The visitors take a circular route along corridors for 30', but taking pictures is not allowed (snif!). My fondest memory from the cave has to do with the wonderful light show at the end of the route, accompanied by classical music... You have to live this!
