This is a smart looking restaurant in the Gazi area and promises much but just failed to deliver. Service is good, the building and furniture attractive and there was a nice buzz to the place, but when the bill for a couple of starters each for the two of us comes to over 50 euros for food that wasn't particularly impressive then no, sorry, not scheduled for a repeat visit.
The owner's dog was a bit of a character doing its begging bit around the tables!
Favorite Dish: The food was OK, just nothing special, the venison filled vine leaf was tasty though.
If this place was rated for decor I would give it 10/10 but unfortunately it is a restaurant and as such I give it 1/10.
A totally white restaurant in the Gazi area, done with a lot of attention to detail. Unfortunately the food leaves a lot to be desired. The food is traditional Greek, but not particularly tasty or special and very expensive for what it is. As we say in Greece an a.. grabbing place!
Lots of people had told me that this is a good place to eat so when vt friend JohnGayton visited I took him there for dinner. Bad move!
So if you are in the Gazi area don't be lured by the lovely simple all white decor. Search for something better. There are lots of places around, one of them is Dirty Streat (see TheView's tip on that restaurant). The food is good and the prices not as high.
My only request for the night was to eat in a non- turist area. After a LONG walk we arrived to this beautiful restaurant.
Mamacas is known to the locals as a "neo-taverna", a place where you can eat traditional greek food in a upscale ambience.
The place is big with plenty tables and it was quite crowded despite the fact it was Sunday.
Dishes are simple and prepared with fresh ingredients.
Favorite Dish: Despite the background music the place was not noise which is a big plus in a big city like Athens. Perfect place to enjoy an Al fresco dinner and chat with friends
