If you ask me, 'Where is your favouite Greek Taverna in Plaka?' I would immediately, without hesitation, say, "Psara!"

This is without a doubt, the best, outdoor seated taverna, for my money, in Plaka. The food is always excellent, the service is pleasant, and the view is lovely and quaint.

I have been eating at Psara's since the early 80's, when the parents of the present owners, were still alive. Back then, this place was an old, not so 'upmarket' place, renowned for its 'fish.' Today, 'Psara' has moved with the times, and has been completed redone.

The menue has lovely appetizers, fish and homecooked entries. Anything you try, will be above better.

Favorite Dish: Whatever is fresh, if it is fish; and all the appitizers, especially the potatoes...always freshly cut, not frozen!

Plaka Taverna Restaurant: Cared for by the Whole Family

The food was terrific and the prices reasonable. It's a great place to sit and watch the world go by in the Plaka District. You are cared for by three generations. Get there early (5:45 PM) and they may invite you to be there seed table by offering free wine and a discount on dinner. We had six people and they gave us two free bottles of wine and 10% off the tab to be their first customers! It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

Favorite Dish: They have wonderful seafood. I enjoyed the calamari. My buddy had seabass and loved it! It was entertaining to see them bring out the whole cooked fish and then prepare it table side by removing the head and bones from the fish before presenting it to the diner.

    Plaka: mixed...

by iaint Written Dec 31, 2010

As the name suggests, this is in Plaka.

I had tzatziki (very good), veal stew with rice and boiled potatoes (good, but “home” cooking rather than restaurant food) & creme caramel (not fancy either) with 0.5l of red wine, all for €20.

The food was fine. The service fluctuated from obsequious to dismal. The former until I’d sat down and ordered. The latter once I was hooked. The waiter seemed pretty uninterested. The owner had the greasy charm required to get bums on seats, but had “insincerity” stamped all over him.

Again nice to be eating outside at the end of December, admittedly with the aid of heaters.

Favorite Dish: The tzatziki, no doubt!

    Plaka Restaurant: Plaka

    by Polly74 Written Jun 4, 2004

Plaka is Athens best preserved 19th century neighbourhood, with charming narrow streets, lively taverns, tourist shops, cafes and beautiful restored mansions. Plaka is under the Acropolis. Plaka took its name because of the flat area; another version is that the area took its name from a large plaque found in Andrianou st.

Favorite Dish: Dont' miss Ouzo as aperitif...and try the fried squids......fantastic!
