The temple of Olympian Zeus (2)

by evancheong Written Feb 4, 2004
    Only 15 columns remain today.

Its because of the sheer size of the 104 Corinthian columns (17m high with a base diameter of 1.7m) that makes it so high and mighty. Impressive.

This remain temple is located in the park of Athens, which is quite high. It is hard to imagine how people built up such huge poles during that acent time.

Note the Acropilis in the background

Later that afternoon an enormous crane was erected on the Acropolis. It was so large that it could be seen from this very spot.

    AnOTHER one?

By now you'll want to give yourself a break from ruins... just take a look at these columns from the Acropolis, take a picture with your zoom lens, and skip it!

15 granite pillars of the original 104 are still standing. And there is a very photogenic fallen one.
