We took a taxi to Piraeus' haven of seafood restaurants, called Mikrolimano. We got kinda cheated, the waiter suggested us a dinner, presented what it would include and so on, and we said yes, it sounds marvellous. We ended up getting much more food we agreed on and also a huge bill of 130+ euros :(
Unique Suggestions: Well, always ask for the menu or if you let them recommend, ask for the price. We thought it'd be somewhat 60 € for 2 people, but it was well over twice the sum. Our fault, won't deny it!
Many restaurants pretend that they have made a mistake and they over charge your bill. They do it purposely because usually people don't check and pay what they have been asked.
If you see that you cannot eat what you are brought because it is burnt don't just be disappointed with your bad luck, but demand to be brought another one. Deny to pay it if you are charged. In case that the man gets rude and starts shouting, ask for the police.
Some of these guys should surely get a lesson!
In a bar, above the city. There are worse places to find yourself. The bar on top of Lykavittos hill does its utmost to be sleek and stylish, but actually its prices are just a wee bit over the top (of the hill)!!

Bairaktaris used to serve one of the best gyros in town and I would have recommended it for your first souvlaki in Greece some years ago. Now, it exploits its publicity being overpriced and downgrading food quality. Plus they don't even serve the traditional souvlaki (the filled pie), only dishes because they can charge them more. I was very dissapointed when I visited last year so was my family from abroad. It's way overrated. Don't go. Nearby there are many taverns where you can have souvlaki.
We went up to Likavitos, the little monistary on top of the mountain overlooking city Athens. We thought it'd be a great idea to eat dinner at the restaurant and enjoy the view. Well the food was OK, but well overpriced and quite 'lame'. I suggest you find a nice little local restaurant down town with genuine Greek food instead. Trust me, no 'pasta bolognese' is worth a couple of thousand drachs...
Now, if you're interested in waiting forever to get a waiter's attention, having a meal that's not only bad, but also way overpriced and then waiting again for the waiter to bring you a check that's not even yours, this is the place to go. It's located on the Adrianou Street. We went there on Easter day, for the special roasted lamb. First off, the waiters kept trying to get me to sit inside, even though there were free tables on the terrace. Then, after finally getting to sit down outside, I waited for over 15 minutes for the waiter to order. The lamb was almost raw with a side dish of French fries, garnished with a hair. Yes, you read it right, there was a hair on the plate, among the French fries. Two beers (Mythos) and this one order of lamb amounted to the ridiculous price of 35 Euro. When I challenged the waiter, he started mentioning a salad I had never had, then a plate of cheese, then finally he figured out that it wasn't our check. He went back inside and returned, another 15 minutes later, with a check of 25 Euro, which is still very pricey for the meal. It turns out that, apart from the bread and the fries that were paid separately, they also included about 12% for tips. All in all, not a very good experience, so try to stay clear of this tavern, unless you have money and time to waste.
